STEPS ON HOW TO APPLY ONLINE FOR MANGOSUTHU UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, MUT ADMISSION    

To use the Mangosuthu University of Technology, MUT online application feature, you must have a working internet device, a valid email address which is not shared with another Mangosuthu University of Technology, MUT applicant, your South African identity number, or, if you are an international applicant, and your passport number. Kindly follow the easy steps below to apply online for Mangosuthu University of Technology, MUT (Mangosuthu University of Technology, MUT Online Application) admission:    

1. Apply Online    

  • Step 1: Please apply online via the CAO Application Portal and click on ‘Apply
  • Step 2: Read the information and click on ‘Continue with Application
  • Step 3: Enter your ID number and click on ‘Submit
  • Step 4: Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on ‘Continue with Application
  • Step 5: Start to enter ALL the details requested. Once you have entered all the requested information, click on ‘Next
  • Step 6: Click on ‘Continue with Online Application
  • Step 7: A pop-up window will appear with your CAO number, password and EasyPay number. Read the instructions. The same information will also be sent to the email address you have provided. This information is important in case you want to access your information at a later date. PLEASE NOTE: YOU HAVE NOT YET COMPLETED YOUR APPLICATION
  • Step 8: Click on ‘Continue with Online Application‘.
  • Step 9: Follow the instructions and complete ALL the information requested, then click ‘Next‘.
  • Step 10: Complete the ‘Next of Kin‘ details and click ‘Next‘.
  • Step 11: Insert the school name and click on ‘Search‘. The school name will appear in a box and you must enter the year you attended that school and the year you finished attending that school.
  • Step 12: Click ‘Next‘.
  • Step 13: When you reach ‘Process My Application‘, click on the button. YOUR APPLICATION HAS NOW BEEN SUBMITTED
  • Step 14: The message on your screen will display that your submission has been successful.
  • Step 15: You can now pay online and/or upload your supporting documents

2. Acknowledgement of Application    

  • You will receive an email confirming online submission of your application immediately.   
  • Within 24 hours, you should receive formal acknowledgment of your application along with your student number and log-in details.   
  • Note this acknowledgement does not mean you’ve been accepted or admitted to Mangosuthu University of Technology.   

3. Upload Supporting Documents    

  • Step 1: Go to the Central Applications Office website, www.cao.ac.za
  • Step 2: Click on the ‘Upload My Documents‘ icon on the Home Page.
  • Step 3: Read the instructions to know what you need ‘in order to login to upload your documents‘.
  • Step 4: Once logged in, follow the steps provided to upload your documents and enter your related examination results, where required.
  • Step 5: Review and make sure that you have uploaded the correct documents and entered the correct results, where required.
  • Step 6: Once you are ready to submit, click the ‘Submit My Documents’ icon.
P.S.: Ensure that the correct document type is selected when your documents are uploaded. If you upload any documents using the incorrect document type, the document will reflect on our system as ‘not received/outstanding‘ and may result in your application being rejected.

4. Acceptance of Offer    

When we update your application, you will receive an email communication. Please monitor your email account closely for updates. You can also check your status online with the log-in credentials that we will send you after you apply. NON-SOUTH AFRICAN APPLICANTS
  •  A valid study permit
  •  A valid medical aid/health insurance cover
  •  A valid passport
  •  GCE, GCSE, IGCSE or Cambridge School Certificate
  •  Students holding a GCE GCSE IGCSE or the Cambridge School Certificate must have passed five approved ordinary level subjects including English language provided three subjects have been passed at the same examination sitting.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION ON THE MUT ONLINE APPLICATION 

1. I would like to enquire about the opening of applications to study at MUT for this year. What are the requirements to study?

2. How will MUT inform applicants that their application is successful?

  • MUT will send an SMS to all successful applicants. In this SMS an applicant will be given a student number as well as the Qualification Code for which the applicant has been accepted and the date the applicant should register on.
  • This SMS will also include a link that will direct the students to the document that will help provide the applicant with the process of how to pay, register and apply and register for residence.
  • PLEASE NOTE THAT MUT DOES NOT ALLOW OR CONSIDER WALKIN APPLICATIONS. ALL APPLICATIONS SHOULD BE DONE THROUGH THE CAO.

3. What is an offer?

  • An offer is a communication from University Student Administration, informing an applicant that their application has been successful, and they have a place at MUT.

  • Online application has a handling fee of R0 which simply means it is absolutely free.

7. When and where can I apply for MUT bursaries?

8. Do I have NSFAS, can you check my NSFAS status, please?

  • NSFAS functions on their own, the University only receives a list of successful MUT applicants and then opens their accounts to register. Please visit the official NSFAS website. 

9. How and where do I apply for NSFAS?

  • Application usually opens from 1 September. You can apply online by checking steps on how to do it here. If you do not have access to online resources, you are more than welcome to visit any tertiary institution that will assist you with applying for NSFAS online. Please make sure you have a valid email address, cell phone number and the required supporting documents ready. 

10. What is the difference between a firm and conditional offer?

  • Conditional offers are only given to applicants who are currently writing Grade 12. Conditional offers are subject to applicants meeting all the entry requirements when the final results are out in January 2022.
  • A firm offer is SMS communication from the university to an applicant stating that they have been granted a place to study at MUT because they meet all the entry requirements. A firm offer is accompanied by a student number. Applicants who have been given firm offers are also expected to accept firm offers and pay the R500 acceptance of offer fee. If they do not accept the firm offer within the allocated period, the firm offer is given to the next applicant.

11. When are your Open Days for MUT?

  • All MUT Open Days are currently virtual. This is to ensure that our stakeholders stay safe and healthy. 

12. How do I accept my firm offer?

  • When accepting a firm offer, you are required to pay R500 to MUT bank account, quoting your student number as reference. The R500 that you pay when accepting a firm offer is part of the R1650 (semester students) or R2750 (annual students) registration fee that you will have to pay depending on whether you are a semester or annual student. You will be required to produce proof of payment of the R500 to get financially cleared to register.

13. How do I apply for MUT residences?

  • You can apply for the residences when you apply for study at MUT by completing the online application. The options for the different residences are on the online application.

14. Can I still qualify to study at your university, if I studied at another institution?

  • When you apply, you still need to add your matric certificate, along with the academic record from your current institution. The faculty will decide on admission and credits. 

15. I am having technical difficulties during the online application process – who can I contact?

16. How long does it take to get feedback after applying?

  • We aim to reply as soon as possible, but we receive a large number of applications. This is also dependent on the submission of all relevant documentation and the time frame in which you apply. 

17. My ID number already exists on the system when I want to apply online – who can I contact?

19. I have N3 and N4 do I qualify for engineering?

  • N4 certificate from a South African TVET college with a 50% pass accompanied by your National Senior Certificate are the minimum requirements to qualify to study at MUT. However, some departments have additional requirements.

20. I did not apply through the CAO, but I want to study at MUT?

  • Application to MUT is done through the Central Application Office, only applicants with a CAO number and have selected MUT as their first or second choice will be considered for a place at the University.
  • Also note that MUT does not entertain walk-ins in any way.  Please publicize or communicate on your platforms that MUT WILL NOT ENTERTAIN WALK-INS.

21. I lost my sms communication with the details of my firm offer, what do I do?

  • Contact 031 907 7181/ 7180 if you lost your SMS communication. Bring the following documents to the University’s Step 1; certified copy of RSA ID and proof of payment.

22. Can I apply with a Birth Certificate?

  • No, it must be an ID. 

23. I didn’t get any SMS communication regarding my application, what do I do?

  • Visit the CAO website www.cao.ac.za click on “My Application” to find out the status of your application Send your CAO / ID number to info@mut.ac.za for an SMS.

24. What happens if MUT is not my first or second choice?

  • MUT will only consider you if you have made it your first or second choice – if you have not made MUT your first choice you will not be considered.
  • The department (that you made second/third choice) will take a final decision and inform you if they are interested in your application. Preference is given to applicants who make MUT their first choice based on the applicant’s final results.

25. How do I apply for postgraduate programmes?

  • Application forms are available MUT website and candidates need not apply via CAO.
