We are not just making this announcement known but also providing various steps on how to apply online for University of Pretoria (UP admission.

STEPS ON HOW TO APPLY ONLINE FOR UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA, UP ADMISSION    

To use the University of Pretoria, UP online application feature, you must have a working internet device, a valid email address which is not shared with another University of Pretoria, UP applicant, your South African identity number, or, if you are an international applicant, your passport number. Kindly follow the easy steps below to apply online for UP (University of Pretoria Online Application) admission:    

1. Apply Online

• Step 1: Please apply online via the University of Pretoria, UP Application Portal if you are enrolling in Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Study Abroad or Graduate School of Business Exchange Programme.    
• Step 2: Kindly click on the “I want to” drop-down list. You can then select either to view or continue your previous application or start a new application. As a first-time applicant, kindly select “Start New Application.”
• Step 3: To begin the application process, a Data Privacy notice will pop up directly afterwards. Kindly select “OK.“
• Step 4: Kindly click on the “Career of Study” drop-down list and click on the undergraduate full-time option. Then select “First year of study” from the drop-down menu and select the applicable year.
• Step 5:  If you previously studied at UP, please enter your student number in the field required. Now complete all the required fields. Finally, please add the security code before you click on “Go“. A dialogue box will pop up, indicating that your application has successfully started. Click “Ok” to continue.
• Step 6: Please check your email for the application ID and password. Take note that the application ID always begins with the letter T followed by seven numbers.
• Step 7: Now, click back to the I want to drop-down list and select the option “Log in to continue.“
• Step 8: Complete the fields with your login details. Click on the “Go” button to continue.
• Step 9: Confirm your email address, then change your password to the one that you are able to remember. When you have done this, proceed to the next page.
• Step 10: After you are done with the above steps, you will then be taken to the page where you will be required to fill in all the necessary information, like your Personal Details, Contact Details, Demographic Details, Tertiary Education, Secondary Education, Study Choice, General Details, Documentation, Declaration, make Payment (Check the University of Pretoria, UP Application Fee and how to Pay Here) and upload the necessary Documents.  
• Step 11: Complete all the fields and click ‘Next’ at each interval to proceed. 
• Step 12: When you are done, kindly click on the ‘Submit‘ button to get your application submitted.    

Please Note:

• UP applications open on March 1 of the year preceding the year of study.
• Each prospective student must complete only one online application. On the online application, the University of Pretoria offers a first and second choice in terms of what you wish to study. All applicants should fill in both a first and second choice on the online application.
• Once your online application has been processed, you will receive a student number (EMPLID).
• Receiving a student number (EMPLID) does NOT imply that you have been accepted by the University of Pretoria yet. Admission is a separate process that your application undergoes after being evaluated by the relevant faculty.
• It is in your best interest to complete your own online application. The University of Pretoria does not make use of representatives, agents or agencies during the application process. If you choose to make use of representatives, agents, or agencies, you do so at your own risk. It is of utmost importance that you provide your personal email and postal address to enable the University of Pretoria to communicate with you directly.
• For the application for Distance Education admission (Faculty of Education), please visit the “Distance Education” web page before you apply. Different rules are applicable.
• It is important to note that should you wish to study the selection programmes (BSc (Arch) or BSc (Int) Architecture), you must indicate them as your first choice on your application, or you will not be considered for these programmes. It is also recommended to indicate the other selection programmes as your first choice on the online application.

2. Acknowledgement of Application    

• You will receive an email confirming the online submission of your application immediately. 
• Within three working days, you should receive formal acknowledgment of your application along with your student number and log-in details.   
• Note: this acknowledgement does not mean you’ve been accepted or admitted to University of Pretoria.   

3. Upload Supporting Documents    

In order to consider your application, please upload every necessary supporting documents listed below on this article. If the application is incomplete, it may be declined by the University.  

4. Acceptance of Offer    

When we update your application, you will receive an email notification. Please monitor your email account closely for updates. You can also check your status online with the log-in credentials that we will send you after you apply. We are not permitted to disclose your application status telephonically.

1. I would like to inquire about the opening of applications to study at UP for this year. What are the requirements to study?

2. What is my application status?

• To check or verify your UP Application status, log in with the student number that was assigned to you when you first applied. 

3. Where do I find the student contract to be signed?

Before a student will be able to register, a contract needs to be concluded between the student and the University of Pretoria.

Students must access the contract online on the UP Portal, Student Centre, by clicking here.

1.  Go to UP Student Portal.
2. Log Login with your username, which is “u,” followed by your student number, eg u12345678.
3.  Enter your password.
4.  Click on “Login”.
5.  Locate and select the Student Centre hyperlink to access your personal information.
6.  Scroll down and click on the ‘Online Contract’ link.

Students are requested to complete the contract online and then print and sign the contract.

To download/print the contract, please ensure that the “Pop-up Blocker” on your web browser is turned off.

If you want to ensure that you have completed the contract correctly and signed in the correct places before sending us the original document, you can upload it to your UP Student Centre. Wait for your contract to be marked as Valid.

As soon as possible thereafter, the completed and signed original contract must be sent per courier to Student Service Centre, c/o Lynnwood and Roper Streets, Hatfield, 0083 or sent by post to Student Service Centre, University of Pretoria, Private Bag X20, Hatfield, 0028. It is advisable to deliver the contract to UP as soon as possible in order to prevent delays with registration. You will not be able to register at UP unless we have received and checked that your submitted contract is valid. The contract becomes legally binding once you register with us.

4. Can I please get a quotation for studies?

5. When do applications open?

• You can start applying online from April every year. Kindly check the UP Application deadline and dates in order not to be left out. 

6. What is the application fee?

• Online application have a handling fee that is non-refundable. Kindly visit the UP Application fee page for more details. 

7. When and where can I apply for UP bursaries?

• You can go to the UP website at https://www.up.ac.za/student-funding Support for information on bursaries and funding. 

8. How do I apply for UP residences?

• You can apply for the residences when you apply to study at UP by completing the online application. The options for the different residences are on the online application.  

9. Can I still qualify to study at your university if I study at another institution?

• When you apply, you still need to add your matriculation certificate along with the academic record from your current institution. The faculty will decide on admission and credits. 

10. For which courses do I qualify?

• Please visit the UP prospectus and courses, as well as our UP entry requirement regarding our courses and admission. 

11. Does UP accept a certificate of conditional exemption?

• The University of Pretoria no longer accepts exemptions based on mature age.

12. I am not sure which programmes I qualify to apply for at the University of Pretoria. Where can I find out more?

What to Study Programme Calculator

You will be required to complete your subjects and percentages.

Please note:

• Only NSC (National Senior Certificate) and IEB (Independent Exam Board) subjects may be used.
• You must capture at least 6 subjects.
• Even if you are eligible to apply for a specific plan, final admission cannot be guaranteed.
• You must have exemption / admission to bachelor’s degree studies to register as a student at the university.

13. When can I apply for 2024?

If you want to apply for studies in 2024, you may apply on April 1, 2023.

14. My application was unsuccessful. How do I apply at CACH?

We strongly advise you to contact the Central Application Clearing House (CACH).

CACH is designed for prospective students who applied on time for a place at a university and, either due to the stiff competition, have not been successful at their institution of choice, or, when they applied, met the entry requirements based on their Grade 11 results, but after the release of their Grade 12 results, they no longer meet the requirements.

CACH provides a service to assist you in finding an alternative place within the post-school education and training system. It redirects you to various possible options, including university spaces that may still be available, TVET college study opportunities, SETA-funded learnerships, or other skills programmes. The CACH provides the profile of all students who sign up to post-school institutions that still have spaces available and tries to match prospective students with the available spaces. If you sign up and such spaces are identified, the institution will contact you and offer you a space. You can also access career development services for advice and assistance via the CACH.

The CACH service opens again in 2023, a few days after the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination results are released. To benefit from the service, you need to sign up online by click here. Alternatively, you may text your first name, surname and ID number to 31629 via standard sms and a call centre agent will contact you and assist you in signing up directly. 15. How do I calculate my APS?

The calculation of an Admission Point Score (APS) is based on a candidate’s achievement in any of the SIX 20-credit recognised subjects by using the National Senior Certificate Seven Point Rating Scale of Achievement. Life Orientation is a 10-credit subject but is EXCLUDED when calculating the APS. When calculating your APS, all recognised NSC subjects (including subjects from the non-designated subject list, eg CAT, Tourism, Hospitality Studies, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Technology, etc), except Life Orientation, are included.

16. Which documents must accompany my application form?

Please ensure that you comply with the minimum admission requirements before you complete your online application form. Follow all the instructions carefully when you complete an application form to ensure that all requested information has been supplied and all the required documents have been uploaded.

Upload a copy of your RSA identity document or, in the case of foreign candidates, your passport.
If you are currently in Grade 12, please upload a copy of your Grade 11 final report.
If you have already completed Grade 12 and took a “gap” year, please upload a copy of your National Senior Certificate or Independent Examination Board Certificate.

17. Which school results are taken into consideration for admission?

Conditional admission to the University of Pretoria is granted based on the results of the final Grade 11 year mark (promotion mark). Please note that the final Grade 12 results remain the determining factor for admission; also note that the achievement of the minimum requirements does not necessarily guarantee admission to any programme or field of study.

* NO 1ST QUARTER, 2ND QUARTER OR MIDTERM RESULTS CAN BE ACCEPTED. If you did not complete Grade 11 in South Africa, please attach the mid-year Grade 12 results. If Grade 12 has been completed or is being repeated, please attach a certified copy of the final Grade 12 certificate. No other results can be taken into consideration. Also attach a copy of your identity document.

18. How do I become a Junior Tukkie?

The JuniorTukkie programme of the Department of Enrolment and Student Administration at the University of Pretoria has been established to assist learners in Grades 10, 11, and 12 to make responsible study and career choices. Grade 9 learners are also offered the opportunity to participate in certain JuniorTukkie enrichment programmes and to become members of the JuniorTukkie Club in their 10th grade year.

19. Can I defer/postpone my application to next year?

You will have to start the application process anew; we cannot carry over / defer your application for next year. The application fee will have to be paid again. Please note that the application fee is a handling fee and is not refundable.

20. How do I apply for postgraduate studies at UP? ?

You must complete an application form online to apply for postgraduate studies. The form must be accompanied by a copy of your identity document, the application fee, and a copy of the academic record and certificate of conduct of the tertiary institution(s) at which you have studied or are registered at present.

21. Must I complete an application form?

Students who are currently registered at UP must complete an internal application for next year. Please visit the UP Portal and navigate to your student centre. The link for internal applications will appear in self-service under the Admissions section.
