GOOGLE DIGITAL FELLOWSHIPS ELIGIBILITY

Scholars are selected on the following criteria:

  • Applicant must be resident in one of the countries: Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Chile, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Italy, Ireland, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and Turkey.
  • Journalists who are interested in the opportunity of producing a research paper based on some aspect of either the Digital News Report survey data or digital journalism in their country more generally, with a direct focus on the professional and industry implications based on their own experience.
  • IELTS: overall score of 7.0 (with at least 7.0 in each of the four components)
  • TOEFL (paper-based): overall score of 600 with a Test of Written English score of 5.5
  • TOEFL (internet-based): overall score of 110 with component scores of at least: Listening 22, Reading 24, Speaking 25, and Writing 24.
  • Cambridge English: Advanced, also known as the Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): grade A if taken before January 2015, or a score of at least 185.
  • Cambridge English: Proficiency, also known as the Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): grade B if taken before January 2015, or a score of at least 185.
  • English Language GCSE, or O-level: grade B (for IGCSE, please see below)
  • International Baccalaureate Standard Level (SL): score of 5 in English (as Language A or B)
  • European Baccalaureate: score of 70% in English.

GOOGLE DIGITAL FELLOWSHIPS APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Application must include:

  • A full curriculum vitae/resume
  • A personal statement outlining i) your journalistic values, ii) the major trends in the media landscape in which you work, and iii) a summary of what you think you would contribute to the Fellowship programme (no more than 500 words in total).
  • A statement of up to 1,000 words explaining your proposed research project
  • A reference from your employer, supporting your application and granting leave of absence – if you are a freelance journalist, we will accept a professional reference from a colleague or higher education tutor
  • A second professional reference
  • A sample of your work
  • Only applications that have been submitted (with the International Office and registered on the website of the scholarship) before February 3, 2020  will be considered.
