Application for the Humboldt Research Fellowships for International Applicants in Germany – 2022/2023. Entry is now open at the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany.



High-qualified international scientists and scholars of all disciplines who want to conduct research at various stages of careers in collaboration with a host at a German research institution. The Humboldt Research Fellowship enables you to conduct your own research at various stages of your career in collaboration with a host at a German research institution of your choice. Hosts may apply for a subsidy towards research costs.

The fellowship is flexible and can be divided into as many as three stays within three years. The aim of the programme is to enable highly qualified academics from abroad to come to Germany to conduct a research stay there.

The Scholarships are one of the most prestigious scholarships in the world. The aim of the program is to create a global network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others.



Scholars are selected on the following criteria:

  • Students are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants can apply for a Postgraduate taught MSc at Birmingham.
  • Applicants must be International.
  • Applicants must hold an offer from the University of Birmingham to start full-time programmes in September 2022.
  • Applicants are considered for this award based on their academic excellence and must hold a first or upper second class honours degree (2. i) or equivalent.
  • The students must submit scores on English language proficiency tests to provide proof of proficiency. Birmingham accepts IELTS/TOEFL/PTE or alternative qualifications.

Application must include:

  • A potential candidate for a scholarship must submit the following: Curriculum vitae (two pages max, Research outline (five pages max), Complete list of publications, List of selected key publications, Key publications, Doctoral certificate, German language certificate, if applicable, Host’s statement and confirmation of research facilities, Two expert reviews, Additionally, where required: publishers’ letter(s) of acceptance and acknowledgment (s) of receipt as well as summaries or translations of the key publications.
  • Only applications that have been submitted (with the International Office and registered on the website of the scholarship) before July and November, 2022  will be considered.
