Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scholarship for African Students - 2019/2020

The Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scholarship Programme is a cooperation and mobility programme in the area of higher education. It promotes cooperation between higher education
institutions and supports mobility in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific regions. The Programme aims to increase access to quality education that will encourage and enable students to undertake
postgraduate studies, and to promote student retention in the region along with mobility of staff (academic and administrative), while increasing the competitiveness and attractiveness of the institutions themselves. Under this framework, HEED-Africa is
one of the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Programme projects funded by the European Commission.

The Scholarships are one of the most prestigious scholarships in the world. The aim of the program is to create a global network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others.

INTRA-AFRICA ACADEMIC MOBILITY ELIGIBILITY

Scholars are selected on the following criteria:

1. Masters Students Mobility

To be eligible for a scholarship, master students must comply with the following criteria set out below at the time of the application.

  • Be a national and resident in any of the eligible countries covered by the Programme.
  • Be registered or admitted in or having obtained a HEI degree or equivalent from:
    • For Target Group I: Be registered or admitted in or having obtained a HEI degree or equivalent from one of the HEIs included in the partnership as a partner.
    • For Target Group II: Be registered or admitted in or having obtained a HEI degree or equivalent from a HEI not included in the partnership as a partner but established in an eligible country.
  • Have sufficient knowledge of the language of the courses in the host countries.
  • Students can only benefit from one scholarship within the same project under the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme-2017 regardless of the type of mobility or the funding project.
  • Students having benefited from scholarship(s) under the previous Intra-ACP Academic Mobility Scheme cannot receive scholarships under the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme.
  • No mobility flows for student between institutions located within a single country of the partnership are eligible.

2. Doctorate Students Mobility

To be eligible for a scholarship, doctoral students must comply with the following criteria set out below at the time of the application.

  • Be a national and resident in any of the eligible countries covered by the Programme.

    • For Target Group I: Be registered or admitted in or having obtained a HEI degree or equivalent from one of the HEIs included in the partnership as a partner.
    • For Target Group II: Be registered or admitted in or having obtained a HEI degree or equivalent from a HEI not included in the partnership as a partner but established in an eligible country.
  • Have sufficient knowledge of the language of the courses in the host countries.
  • Students can only benefit from one scholarship within the same project under the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme-2017 regardless of the type of mobility or the funding project.
  • Students, having benefitted from scholarship(s) under the previous Intra-ACP Academic Mobility Scheme, cannot receive scholarships under the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme.

INTRA-AFRICA ACADEMIC MOBILITY APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

  • Applicants must complete and submit all the applicable sections of the online application form together with a digital copy of all the required/relevant documents. Candidates who fail to complete the application form and submit the required documents as specified above will immediately be excluded without any possibility of appeal. The following mandatory documents must be submitted in English language without any exceptions.
  • Applicant cannot apply for Master’s or Doctorate mobility at their prior institution of study.
  • Applicants can select up to 3 host institutions, but they can only choose one course per host institution.
  • Must be enrolled in a Master’s or Doctorate program at one of the partner institutions (Target Group I applicants only).
  • Must have not resided nor have carried out your main activity (studies, work, etc) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of the host institution countries.
  • Must fulfil all scholarship eligibility criteria.
  • All mandatory documents must be attached to the online Application Form. Applications that are incomplete or have blank or unreadable documents will be disregarded.
  • In addition to these criteria there may be others defined internally by each partner institution of the project. Before completing and submitting their application, it is strongly recommended that applicants liaise with the contact person(s) or the LOUs of their (choice) institution in order to obtain information about the specific eligibility criteria.

Application must include:

  • Confirmation of EnrollmentStatement issued by the home partner institution regarding the applicant’s enrollment in the degree course. This document must be dated, signed and stamped by the home partner institution, otherwise it will not be considered valid and the application will be excluded.
  • Research Plans: Doctorate applicants should submit a proposal describing their proposed research project including rationale for the study, state-of-the-art literatures, objectives/aims/research questions, methodology, with detailed action plan including activities to be performed at the host institution. The proposal must be well written in English Language and proofread before submission.
  • Letter of recommendationAt least two recommendation letters from your Professor and Colleagues who can be contacted if necessary.
  • Certificate of English Language Proficiency: Certificate of language skills in accordance with the requirements of the host institution.
  • For Target Group 2 applicants, a letter of support from an academic staff member of a higher education institution in an eligible country (The letter may be from a partner institution).
  • For Credit-Seeking Mobility, a statement issued by the home institution confirming the applicant’s enrolment in a postgraduate degree programme and endorsing the applicant’s mobility proposal. The statement should include a description of the degree programme, the degree duration, the number of credits for the degree, and the number of credits per course.
  • For Degree-Seeking Mobility, the admission requirements of the hosting institution should be met for degree-seeking mobility applications.
  • Photo: A digital copy of your photo.
  • Passport: A copy of formal identity passport issued by a national authority
  • Curriculum Vitae: Applicant’s resume prepared in Europass format.
  • Online Application FormSubmit completed application forms when a programme is open for applications.
  • Diploma Certificate: Must have been issued by a higher education institution, dated, signed and stamped, otherwise it will not be considered valid and the application will be excluded.
  • Transcript of Records: Verifiable transcript of academic records for degrees completed, stating in detail all courses taken and grades obtained in the course. Documents must be dated, signed and stamped by the institution, otherwise they will not be considered valid and the application will be immediately excluded.
  • Motivation Letter: A statement of motivation indicating the mobility long-term benefits.
  • Only applications that have been submitted (with the International Office and registered on the website of the scholarship) before June 15, 2019 will be considered for the scholarship.
