SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY ADMISSION GUIDELINES AND FORMS

Application for admission may be made at any time after completion of the junior year of high school. Applications are considered on a competitive basis as related to test scores, academic history (high school and college), academic and professional references, and an essay.

Applicants who submit complete applications and supporting materials by the deadlines will meet the priority deadlines.

SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY APPLICATION STEPS AND REQUIREMENTS

All students are required to submit the following items prior to the deadline date:

Freshmen Applicants

Kindly follow the steps below for a successful application

Step 1: Start and Complete the Admission Application Online through the Cal State Apply with SDSU supplement.

Step 2: Gather, Submit Necessary Documents and application should include:

  • Application fee as indicated below or fee waiver
  • Official high school transcript
  • All required standardized testing official score reports, which includes the TOEFL or IELTS if English is not your native language
  • Secondary School Counselor Evaluation
  • Two (2) Teacher Recommendations
  • Standardized test results (ACT or SAT)
  • Mid-Year Report (due when first semester/term senior grades are available at your school)
  • Common Application essay

Transfer Students

Transfer Students Application should include the following:

  • Application Fee or Fee Waiver.
  • Official College Transcripts (from all institutions attended).
  • Official High School Transcript.
  • College Report from your current or most recent college.
  • Transfer Mid-Term Report (if currently enrolled).
  • Two (2) academic recommendations (at least one from a college instructor).
  • SAT or ACT. Transfer applicants must submit official or self-reported scores from the SAT or ACT. The only exception is for students who are currently enrolled in college in countries where the exams are not offered.
  • English Proficiency Tests: TOEFL, IELTS or PTE Academic (non-native English speakers only).

APPLICATION FEE

The undergraduate application fee is $70, payable online via the Common Application when you submit your application for admission. The fee applies to all applicants, regardless of state of residency or citizenship status.

Application & Testing Deadlines

The following deadlines pertain to both domestic and international applicants. Applications and all required supporting documents are due by 11:59 p.m. Pacific time on the noted deadline dates.
Freshman Admission Timeline

If you’re a high school student, you should apply early in your senior year; admission will be much more competitive if you apply later.

To meet a deadline, your application must be complete, which means we have received all required material.

Fall 2020 Freshman Admission Dates

January
January 15 Weber Honors College application priority consideration deadline. Students are strongly encouraged to apply by this deadline.
January If you haven’t done so already, file either your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the Dream Act application, as soon as possible.
February
February 15 The HealtheConnect portal opens. Log in to the portal and upload your proof of immunizations and your Tuberculosis (TB) Risk Assessment.
February If you haven’t done so already, file your FAFSA as soon as possible.
March
Early March Check AidLink to make sure you have submitted all requested financial aid documents.
March 2 Housing License Agreement available. License Agreement and $375 nonrefundable initial payment due by May 1 for on-campus housing.
March 2 Deadline to submit GPA Verification Form for a Cal Grant.
Mid-March Final financial aid award notice posted in AidLink for students who have been admitted and have completed their financial aid applications.
March 20 CANCELED: Explore SDSU Welcome Reception for Out-of-State Students
March 21 CANCELED: Explore SDSU Open House.
March 30 Weber Honors College application final deadline. After January 15, applications are accepted and evaluated on a space-available basis.
March Accept your offer of admission by submitting your online Intent to Enroll $400 nonrefundable deposit as soon as possible.
March The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) begins mailing acceptance letters and First Contact program information.
April
April 1 Check AidLink and submit requested documents to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships for priority evaluation.
April Order official transcripts for your Intent to Enroll.
April New Student Orientation information is available online.
May
May 1 Deadline to accept your offer of admission by submitting your online Intent to Enroll $400 nonrefundable deposit, official transcripts including fall 2019 grades and official test scores.
May 1 Deadline to submit your Housing License Agreement and $375 nonrefundable initial payment for on-campus housing.
May 4 Complete Phase 2 of your Housing License Agreement.
May 12 New Student Orientation online reservation system will open at 10 a.m. PST.
May Check AidLink to make sure you have submitted all requested financial aid documents.

June
June Class registration information sent to new students.
June Pay your Basic Tuition and Fees as soon as possible, which are due no later than two weeks before your New Student Orientation date, on your Online Student Account.
June Sign up for Direct Deposit (eRefund) through your Online Student Account. Once you sign up, your financial aid refunds are directly deposited into your designated personal checking or savings account.
June Request that your final high school and/or college transcripts (including spring 2020 grades and graduation date) and official test scores be sent to the SDSU Office of Admissions by July 15 to complete your Intent to Enroll. Request personal copies for yourself to keep in an advising file.
June EOP First Contact programs begin.
June Make sure that you have made your New Student Orientation reservation.
July
Early July Pay your Basic Tuition and Fees in full and clear any holds listed on your SDSU WebPortal.
July 15 All final official high school and/or college transcripts must be received by the SDSU Office of Admissions. If we do not receive your transcript by this date, an administrative hold will be placed on your university record and you will be unable to register for fall classes. This transcript is in addition to the transcripts you submitted with your Intent to Enroll.
July 20 Deadline to cancel Housing License Agreement.
July In lieu of making your Basic Tuition and Fees payment, activate your student loan(s) and/or request your Parent PLUS loan to cover tuition, fees, and other university expenses. Loans will disburse 7–10 days prior to the start of the semester.
July Attend New Student Orientation.
August
Early August If you are a not a resident of California, please pay your non-resident tuition by the first day of classes.
Late August Disbursement of fall financial aid and scholarship funds begins for enrolled and qualified applicants 7–10 days prior to the start of the fall semester. Check Student Account Services and your designated bank account for transactions.
August 20-21 Residence halls and on-campus apartments open.
August 21 Welcome Week begins.
August 22 New Student and Family Convocation.
August 23 If you are not a resident of California, your non-resident tuition is due.
August 24 Classes begin.
August Attend New Student Orientation.

Transfer Admission Timeline

You should apply as early as possible prior to the term you want to begin; once a major reaches capacity, we will stop accepting applications even if that occurs before the deadline.

To meet a deadline, your application must be complete, which means all required material has been received.

January 7 SDSU Supplemental Application in your SDSU WebPortal account is available.
January 22 Deadline to complete online SDSU Supplemental Application in your SDSU WebPortal account.
February
February If you haven’t done so already, file your Free FAFSA (financial aid application) as soon as possible. Be sure to use the IRS data retrieval option when completing your FAFSA to reduce errors and list SDSU’s federal school code (001151) on your FAFSA.
