Stanford University, SU Financial Aid Application Forms - 2019/2020

Stanford offers comprehensive, need-based financial aid that makes it possible for all admitted undergraduate students to attend—and we do not expect students to borrow to meet their need. Learn how the program works, or use the net price calculator to get an award estimate based on your family’s financial situation.

Stanford provides financial aid in the form of scholarships, which do not need to be repaid. Federal and state grants, outside scholarships, and student employment are additional sources of funding. We do not expect you to take out student loans to cover your college costs.

STANFORD UNIVERSITY FINANCIAL AID ELIGIBILITY

  • Our financial aid program is need-based, meaning that all aid eligibility is determined by your family’s financial circumstances. While you and your parents have the primary responsibility for paying for college, financial aid can bridge the gap between the total costs and your ability to pay.
  • We use a standard method to carefully review your family’s financial circumstances and establish an expected contribution from you and your parents. If we determine that you cannot meet the student budget based on that calculated amount, we will award or recommend scholarships, grants or other resources to help you.
  • Eligibility for Stanford Scholarship funds is based not only on family income level, but also on the size of the family, number of family members in college and family assets among other factors.  This explains why not every applicant at a particular income level may qualify for assistance.
  • Prospective students and parents are encouraged to use our Net Price Calculator to obtain an individualized estimate of eligibility for need-based financial aid from Stanford.

STANFORD UNIVERSITY FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Filing earlier than our priority filing dates is not necessary.  Application requirements vary by citizenship status and enrollment/application status.  Please refer to the US Department of Education for a definition of Eligible Noncitizens.  Stanford considers undocumented students to be eligible noncitizens for purposes of institutional scholarship eligibility, although they are not eligible for federal student aid funds.
