University of Maryland, UMD Admission Requirements: 2020/2021 Prospectus

This article contains information on the University of Maryland, UMD application form and requirements for admission into Undergraduate Degree, Diploma Programmes and Postgraduate for the 2020/2021 academic year.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified SCHOOL LEAVERS, NON-SCHOOL LEAVERS and SPECIAL CASES.

UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND ADMISSION GUIDELINES AND FORMS

Application for admission may be made at any time after completion of the junior year of high school. Applications are considered on a competitive basis as related to test scores, academic history (high school and college), academic and professional references, and an essay.

Applicants who submit complete applications and supporting materials by the deadlines will meet the priority deadlines.

UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND APPLICATION STEPS AND REQUIREMENTS

All students are required to submit the following items prior to the deadline date:

Freshmen Applicants

Kindly follow the steps below for a successful application

Step 1: Start and Complete the Application Online through the Online Application Portal.

Step 2: Gather, Submit Necessary Documents and application should include:

  • Application fee as indicated below or a fee waiver
  • Official high school transcript
  • All required standardized testing official score reports, which includes the TOEFL or IELTS if English is not your native language
  • Secondary School Counselor Evaluation
  • Two letters of recommendation are required for a completed application: one from your school counsellor and one from a teacher. Recommendations must be sent to us directly from the recommender.
  • Standardized test results (ACT or SAT)
  • Mid-Year Report (due when first semester/term senior grades are available at your school)
  • Activities and awards list or resume
  • School of Music application (School of Music applicants only)

Transfer Students

Start and Complete the Application Online through the Online Application Portal.

Transfer Students Application should include the following:

  • Application Fee or Fee Waiver.
  • Official College Transcripts (from all institutions attended).
  • Official High School Transcript. (if necessary)
  • College Report from your current or most recent college.
  • Transfer Mid-Term Report (if currently enrolled).
  • Letter of recommendation (optional)
  • SAT or ACT (if necessary). Transfer applicants must submit official or self-reported scores from the SAT or ACT. The only exception is for students who are currently enrolled in college in countries where the exams are not offered.
  • Activities and awards list or resume (optional)
  • School of Music application (School of Music applicants only)

APPLICATION FEE

The undergraduate application fee is $75, payable online via the Common Application when you submit your application for admission. The fee applies to all applicants, regardless of the state of residency or citizenship status.

Application & Testing Deadlines

The following deadlines pertain to both domestic and international applicants. Applications and all required supporting documents are due by 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on the noted deadline dates.

*Indicates that the date is for the prior year. For example, U.S. Freshman applying for Fall 2020 early action admission must apply by November 1, 2019.

Notes:

  1. For priority consideration, applicants are strongly encouraged to apply by the early action deadline where applicable. Freshmen who apply by November 1 for the fall semester will receive priority consideration for admission to the university, merit-based scholarships and invitations to special programs. Transfer students who apply by the early action deadline for the fall semester will receive priority consideration for admission to the university and merit-based scholarships. The early action deadline is non-binding; these applicants will have until the date listed in the “Enrollment Confirmation Deadline” column to confirm their enrollment.
  2. Applications received after the regular deadline will be considered on a rolling, space-available basis.
  3. Freshman students who apply for the fall semester are automatically considered for spring admission.
  4. Students with non-U.S. academic records and/or are non-U.S. citizens or non-U.S. permanent residents (those who hold or intend to seek an F-1 Student or J-1 Exchange Visitor visa to study in the U.S.) should apply as international students and are encouraged to review the International Applicant Requirements. All other students should follow the regular application instructions for freshman or transfer
