College of Cape Town Poetry Competition Benefits
Participating in the Poetry Competition 2023 offers you the chance to:
- Express yourself creatively and explore the themes in a unique and personal way
- Develop and hone your writing skills
- Gain recognition for your talent within the college community
- Compete for the top prize as the winner or one of the three runners-up
College of Cape Town Poetry Competition Eligibility
To be eligible for the competition, participants must:
- Be a currently registered student at the College of Cape Town
- Submit original poems; plagiarized entries will lead to disqualification and a ban from future poetry competitions
- Write poems in English, with the option to include foreign phrases if necessary
- Adhere to the maximum length of 100 lines for each poem
Judging Criteria
The winning poems will be selected based on the following criteria:
- Relevance to the theme
- Structure and organization
- Expression and clarity
- Originality and creativity
College of Cape Town Poetry Competition Application Procedure
To enter the competition, follow these simple steps:
- Write a poem on either of the specified themes: “Nurture Nature” or “Growing Up”
- Ensure your poem is either rhyming or free verse
- You may enter as many times as you like with different poems
- When submitting your poem(s), provide the following information:
- Your full name
- Cell number
- Course you are studying
- Campus you are attending
- The theme of your poem
- Email your poem(s) to hadams@cct.edu.za

The deadline for submissions is May 19, 2023. Make sure to send your entries before this date, as no late submissions will be accepted.
