To use the Durban University of Technology, DUT online application feature, you must have a working internet device, a valid email address which is not shared with another Durban University of Technology, DUT applicant, your South African identity number, or, if you are an international applicant, your passport number. 1. Apply Online  (How to Apply Online at DUT)

  • Step 1: Please apply online via the CAO Application Portal and click on ‘Apply
  • Step 2: Read the information and click on ‘Continue with Application
  • Step 3: Enter your ID number and click on ‘Submit
  • Step 4: Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on ‘Continue with Application
  • Step 5: Start to enter ALL the details requested. Once you have entered all the requested information, click on ‘Next
  • Step 6: Click on ‘Continue with Online Application
  • Step 7: A pop-up window will appear with your CAO number, password and EasyPay number. Read the instructions. The same information will also be sent to the email address you have provided. This information is important in case you want to access your information at a later date.
    PLEASE NOTE: that you have not yet completed your application.
  • Step 8: Click on ‘Continue with Online Application‘.
  • Step 9: Follow the instructions and complete ALL the information requested, then click ‘Next‘.
  • Step 10: Complete the ‘Next of Kin‘ details and click ‘Next‘.
  • Step 11: Insert the school name and click on ‘Search‘. The school name will appear in a box and you must enter the year you attended that school and the year you finished attending that school.
  • Step 12: Click ‘Next‘.
  • Step 13: When you reach ‘Process My Application‘, click on the button.
    YOUR APPLICATION HAS NOW BEEN SUBMITTED
  • Step 14: The message on your screen will display that your submission has been successful.
  • Step 15: You can now pay online and/or upload your supporting documents

2. Acknowledgement of Application    

  • You will receive an email confirming the online submission of your application immediately. 
  • Within three working days, you should receive formal acknowledgment of your application along with your student number and log-in details.   
  • Note: this acknowledgement does not mean you’ve been accepted or admitted to Durban University of Technology, UL.   

3. Upload Supporting Documents

In order to consider your application, please upload every necessary supporting documents listed below on this article. If the application is incomplete, it may be declined by the University.  

4. Selection Flow

  1. applicant applies via the CAO.
  2. CAO captures the application form
  3. Academic Departments and Admissions Departments make selections online and/or download the application from the CAO for specific programmes.
  4. Student Admissions Department conducts preselection online based on University & programme-specific requirements
  5. Programme requirements met.
  6. Applicants are invited for entrance test, interview, etc
  7. Applicants are ranked according to their achievement rating.
  8. Successful applicants are sent a conditional or firm acceptance. Other applicants are waitlisted/rejected
  9. Successful applicants will be required to pay a deposit to secure their place
  10. Admission requirements met on final NSC results.
  11. Student admissions officers give firm acceptance of the offer to study.
  12. Admissions departments may look at waitlisted applicants if enrolment targets are not met.
  13. Student Admissions informs the student about documents required, fees payable & registration dates.

5. Acceptance of Offer    

When we update your application, you will receive an email notification. Please monitor your email account closely for updates. You can also check your status online with the log-in credentials that we will send you after you apply. We are not permitted to disclose your application status telephonically.

9. How do I apply for DUT residences?

  • You can apply for the residences when you apply to study at DUT by completing the online application. The options for the different residences are on the online application.  

10. Can I still qualify to study at your university if I study at another institution?

  • When you apply, you still need to add your matriculation certificate with the academic record from your current institution. The Faculty will decide about admission and credits. 

11. I am having technical difficulties during the online application process; who can I contact?

12. How long does it take to get feedback after applying?

  • We aim to reply as soon as possible, but we receive a large number of applications. This is also dependent on the submission of all relevant documentation and the time frame in which you apply. 

13. My ID number already exists on the system; when I want to apply online, who can I contact?

14. For which courses do I qualify?

15. I was unsuccessful in my DUT application. What does this mean?

You do not adhere to one or all of the following requirements: 

  • Do not qualify for Bacclaureus (University admission) 
  • Correct APS 
  • Specific subject requirements for the degree 
  • Capacity limitations: Please note that, owing to specific capacity constraints, the University reserves the right to select candidates for admission to certain fields of study. This means that prospective students who comply with the minimum requirements will not automatically be admitted to the courses in question. Because of capacity limitations and the high demand from students for admission to particular fields of study, students will be selected on the basis of their Grade 12 results for admission to these fields. 

16. Can I apply with a Birth Certificate?

  • No, it must be an ID. 

17. How can I update my application details?

  • Prospective applicants (who have already submitted their applications) can request a change of qualification by submitting a request to the following email address: info@dut.ac.za please be sure to include your student number and contact details in the email.
