“Apply for the Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo’s Horticulture Learnership Program 2023 – Enhancing Skills and Cultivating Future Leaders in Horticulture”

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo is excited to announce a unique opportunity for young, unemployed South Africans interested in pursuing a career in horticulture. This Horticulture Learnership Program is tailored towards individuals who hold a matric certificate or equivalent, and are currently residing in the Johannesburg region.

With an age range of 18 to 35 years, this learnership aims to provide hands-on experience in the field of horticulture. We strongly encourage individuals with disabilities to apply, as we are committed to inclusivity and equal opportunity in the workforce.

Program Benefits

Participants in the Horticulture Learnership will acquire comprehensive knowledge about health & safety in a horticultural environment, soil science, plant identification, cultivation & care of ornamental plants, and much more. Additionally, they will receive training in preparing soils for planting, using fertilizers, removing weeds and alien plants, applying herbicides and pesticides, and maintaining lawns and grass sods.

Moreover, the learnership offers a stipend of R3 500 per month, providing financial support during the training period.

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo Horticulture Learnership Eligibility

To be considered for the Horticulture Learnership, candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • Possess a Grade 12 certificate or NQF L4, or have knowledge & skills in the related field.
  • Have a basic understanding of Health & Safety in a horticultural environment and Soil Science.

Important Dates and Information

The duration of the learnership will be twelve months (12 months). However, applicants should be aware that there is no guarantee of employment at the conclusion of the learnership period.
