The application for the MQA Unemployed Learners Bursary for the academic year 2022/2023 is now open by Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) for all South Africans in South Africa.

The MQA hereby invites all outstanding students to apply for the Unemployed Learners Bursary. It is meant for students that intend to, or are currently studying towards degree and diploma programmes that are aligned to the following listed below:

THE MQA BURSARY SCHEME ONLY FUNDS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS AT TVET COLLEGES:

  • Boilermaker
  • Fitting (including Machinery)
  • Motor Mechanic (Diesel)
  • Instrumentation Mechanic
  • Electrician
  • Millwright
  • Fitter and Turner
  • Rigger Ropes man

THE MQA BURSARY SCHEME ONLY FUNDS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS AT UNIVERSITIES AND UNIVERSITIES OF TECHNOLOGY:

  • Metallurgical Engineering
  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Jewelry Design Manufacturing
  • Electro Mechanical Engineering
  • Geology
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mining Engineering
  • Occupational Health and Safety
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Occupational Hygiene
  • Mine Surveying
  • Occupational Medicine
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Environmental Health and Management

The MQA would like to invite learners who are presently in Grade 12 or already studying at a public university, university of technology or a TVET college to apply for an MQA bursary for the 2024 academic year. A total of 1 000 bursary opportunities will be available for the 2024 academic year and for those that commenced with their studies in the second semester of 2021 academic year. The bursary will cover tuition and allowances for accommodation, books and meals.

The MQA bursary programme assists by supporting financially deserving students with great academic potential to take their first steps in achieving their dreams and obtaining their undergraduate degree. MQA Bursary programme aims to fund academically deserving students who do not have the financial means to study full-time towards an undergraduate degree.

MQA UNEMPLOYED LEARNERS BURSARY APPLICATION ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be South African citizens.

PLEASE NOTE: The MQA may allocate 20% of the total bursary allocations for the 2024 academic year for qualifications which are not listed above, which the MQA may deem as qualifications necessary for the mining and minerals sector.

Note: This bursary is not available for students pursuing post-graduates studies.

Preference will be given to the following aspects in the selection of candidates:

  • HDI’s applicants;
  • Financially needy applicants – with a combined income of not more than R600 000 per annum;
  • Female applicants;
  • Applicants living in rural communities;
  • Applicants who have applied to study at their local tertiary institutions;
  • Good academic performance.

Please note that communication will be limited to successful applicants only. If you have not received any communication from MQA by 15 December 2021, then please consider your application as having been unsuccessful. LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS

  • Completed applications need to be submitted by no later than 30 September 2021.
