We’re thrilled to announce that the National Youth Service Learnerships program for 2023 is now open for applications. This is an extraordinary opportunity for young South Africans interested in building their skills and careers in various construction fields.
The Department of Infrastructure invites South Africans interested in the construction industry to apply for this educational and skills development initiative. This program provides you with the practical skills and knowledge needed to excel in the following fields:
- Electrical
- Plumbing
- Bricklaying
- Health & Safety
- Roadworks
- Landscaping & Horticulture
- Welding

National Youth Service Learnerships Eligibility
To be eligible for this program, you need to fulfill the following criteria:
- You must be unemployed and between 18-30 years of age.
- You can only apply for a training opportunity in the region where you reside.
- You will need to pass a substance abuse test and a medical test as part of the final selection and appointment process.
- Females, youth with disabilities, and youth in conflict with the law are especially encouraged to apply.
- In your application, you must indicate the name of the region and for which trade you are applying (e.g., Metro Electrical).
National Youth Service Learnerships Application Procedure
Applications must be submitted through the SA Youth website. The steps to apply are as follows:
- Visit the SA Youth website to register.
- Complete your online application for your chosen trade.
- Ensure you correctly enter the necessary details, including your region and the trade for which you are applying.

Applications for all trades and programs open on 1st June 2023 and close on 30th June 2023.

- Welding L4 (Ref. WMR)
- Bricklaying L3 (Ref. BMR)
- Carpentry L3 (Ref. CMR)
- Plumbing L4 (Ref. PMR)
- Electrical Engineering L3
- Bricklaying (Masonry) L3
