The TUT APS for various courses is determined by using a constant calculation formula which will be stated in this article.  Every year, the management of the Tshwane University of Technology publishes a standard Admission Point Score for all courses which can be used as a constant in determining the selection of prospective students into undergraduate programmes. HOW TO CALCULATE THE TSHWANE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, TUT ADMISSION POINT SCORE 

The formula used in calculating the TUT admission point score is a summation of all your six (6) best high school subjects (excluding Life Orientation), the total percentage you get is your admission point. Kindly check below for an illustration and example of the APS.

How to calculate your Admission Point Score (APS)

There are 2 Methods in Calculating TUT Admission Point Score. They are given below:
1.  Check the Online APS Calculator
Check online if you meet the requirements for consideration for admission into the programme(s) of your choice before you apply. To use this facility, please visit https://www.tut.ac.za/study-at-tut/i-want-to-study/aps.
2. Alternative And International Qualifications
ACCEPTANCE IS SUBJECT TO AVAILABLE CAPACITY ACCORDING TO THE STUDENT ENROLMENT PLAN (SEP) Alternative and international qualifications (HIGSCE, IGCSE, NSSC A&O Level, IB Higher and Standard Level, etc) are dealt with in a specific manner:
  • While there is a legal imperative to submit the certificate of equivalence (issued by SAQA or the CHE) it is recommended that the application process be initiated while the application for certificate is in
  • The Tshwane University of Technology cannot obtain this certificate on your behalf.
CONVERSION OF ALTERNATIVE/EQUIVALENT RECOGNISED CERTIFICATES The following table and accompanying information gives an indication of how the University will evaluate the various certificates that may be offered as equivalent to the National Senior Certificate (SA). Where possible, the University will evaluate the listed qualifications as indicated. However, the University has the right to refer any application to the formal application processes through the Senate.

  • NSSC                 Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate
  • O-LEVEL              Ordinary level
  • A-LEVEL Advanced level
  • IB                   International Baccalaureate Schools (higher and standard levels)
Please note:
As from March 2005, a minimum score of 1500 is needed for admission to a National Diploma, with a subminimum of not less than 460 for Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing. In accordance with HESA requirements, a minimum score of 1600 is needed for admission to a degree, with a subminimum of not less than 500 for Critical Reading and Mathematics and 550 for Writing. The percentiles on the SAT certificate can be used to derive scores for Mathematics and English, as indicated in the table above. The student’s college entrance certificate (such as the certificate issued by the ACE School of Tomorrow) or individual SAT subject tests should be used for the scores of any other subjects required.
