UENR Admission Requirements – 2023/2024

The University of Energy & Natural Resources, UENR 2024/2025 admission requirement for all their courses at the undergraduate, diploma and postgraduate level is updated every year. University of Energy & Natural Resources, UENR Admission Requirements - 2023/2024 Therefore, this article contains the full list of all the undergraduate and postgraduate courses coupled with their general requirements. For admission into programmes of study at the University of Energy & Natural Resources, UENR for any first degree or second degree, an applicant must have the following requirements for a successful admission.

Entry requirements for a Undergraduate degree Programme

The University has four entry routes:
  1.  Entry by means of SSCE/WASSCE (Entry at level 100)
  2. Foreign student (Entry at level 100)
  3.  Entry by means of mature students examination (Entry at level 100)
  4. Entry by means of professional certificates and tertiary level diplomas depending on assessment of the diploma and performance at interview.
The general admission requirements for the various entry routes are as follows:
1. First Degree Programmes
Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
  • To be admitted to any First Degree Programme, SSSCE/WASSCE candidates must possess six (6) credit passes in subjects relevant to the programme of study.
  • SSSCE Applicants: Candidates must possess credit passes (A-D) in Six (6) subjects comprising three (3)  core subjects; English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science (for Science related programmes)/Social Studies (for non- science related programmes) in addition to three (3) relevant elective subjects.
  • WASSCE Applicants:  Candidates must possess credit passes (A1-C6) in Six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects; English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science (for Science related programmes)/Social Studies (for non- science related programmes) in addition to three (3) relevant elective.
  • HND Applicants: HND applicants must have graduated with at least a Pass and in addition must have acquired a 2-year Post-HND qualification working experience.
  • Professional and Post-Diploma Applicants Candidates in the category must possess:
    • A Diploma or Higher National Diploma or its equivalent in a rele vant programme from a recognized institution
    • Must pass interview conducted by the University
In addition to the general admission requirements above, Schools and Departments may have their specific requirements.
Other Qualifications
Other qualifications acceptable for consideration for admission include International Baccalaureate (IB), IGCSE, GCSE, American Grade 13 examinations and other external qualifications which have equivalences to the WASSCE/SSSCE and the GCE (A Levels). International students whose first language is not English are required to have one of the following English language qualifications before they can register on any programme. However, applicants form English speaking countries may have these requirements waived.
  • IELTS 6.0 (no less than 5.0 in any elements)
  •  TOEFL paper-based 550 (no less than 4.0 in TWE)
  • TOEFL IBT 79 (no less than 17 in any element)
Foreign Applicants
  • Candidates must possess any of the above qualifications or their equivalent from accredited/recognized institutions.
Mature Students’ Entry
Mature students entry avenues to tertiary education provide opportunities  for people who could not do so earlier in their lives to further their education at the tertiary level after some years in the workplace (preferably, the formal workplace). The applicant must:
  • be at least 25 years old by 1st September of the academic year the applicant wants to enroll
  • show proof of age with birth certificate which is at least 5 years old at the time  of application  which must be confirmed  on the  WASSCE Certificate (if the applicate is a WASSCE holder);
  • provide introductory letter from employer or show any other proof of employment;
  • pass Mature Students’ Entrance Examinations conducted by UENR (English Language, Mathematics and Aptitude Test). In lieu of such examinations, the applicant should show proof of credit passes in English and Mathematics in SSSCE/WASSCE or any other nationally recognized standard High School level examinations. For qualifications from countries outside WAEC, NAB should be consulted.
Mature student applicants must pass UENR entrance examination and /or interview.
2. 2-Year Diploma Programme
  1. SSSCE holders with passes (A-E) in all subjects, including English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies plus 3 passes (A-E) in Three Elective subjects relevant to the programme of study.
  2. WASSCE holders with passes (A1-D7) in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies plus passes (A1-D7) in Three Elective subjects relevant to the programme of study.
SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering BSc. Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • SSSCEApplicants: To be admitted to Electrical and Electronic Engineering Degree programme, SSSCE Candidates should have Credit Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; and three (3) elective science subjects: Elective Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Applied Electricity/Applied Electronics.
  • WASSCE Applicants: WASSCE Candidates should have Credit Passes (A1-C6) insix (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects; including English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; and three (3) elective science subjects; Elective Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Applied Electricity/Applied Electronics.
  • Professional and Post-Diploma Applicants Candidates in this category must possess:
    • A Diploma or Higher National diploma or its equivalent in a relevant programme from a recognized and accredited institution;
    • Must pass an interview;
    • Two years’ post qualification working experience;
Candidates with HND/relevant professional or diploma in Electrical and Electronic Certificate who obtained First Class or Second Class Upper Division will enter at level 300. Those with Second Class Lower Division or Pass will enter at level 200.
BSc. Computer Engineering
  • SSSCEApplicants: To be admitted to Computer Engineering Degree programme, SSSCE Candidates should have Credit Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects; English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; and three (3) elective subjects; Elective Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Applied Electronics.
  • WASSCE Applicants: WASSCE Candidates should have Credit Passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; and three (3) elective science subjects: Elective Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Applied Electronics.
  • Professional and Post-Diploma Applicants  in this category must possess:
    • A Diploma or Higher National Diploma or its equivalent in a relevant programme from a recognized and accredited institution;
    • Must pass an interview;
    • Two years’ post qualification working experience;
Candidates with HND/relevant professional or diploma in Electrical and Electronic Certificate who obtained First Class or Second Class Upper Division will enter at level 300. Those with Second Class Upper Lower Division or Pass will enter at level 200.
Diploma Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • SSSCE/WASSCE Candidates should have Passes (A-E)/(A1-D7) respectively in three (3) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects; English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; and any three (3) passes in the following elective subjects; Physics, Chemistry, Elective Mathematics and Applied Electricity
Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering BSc. Mechanical Engineering
  • SSSCE/WASSCE Applicants: To be admitted to Mechanical Engineering Degree programme, SSSCE Candidates should have Credit Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3)  core subjects; English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; and three (3) elective science subjects: Elective Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Technical Drawing/Auto Mechanics/Metal Work.
  • WASSCE Candidates should have Credit Passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects; English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; and three (3) elective science subjects; Elective Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Technical Drawing/Auto Mechanics/Metal Work.
  • Professional and Post-Diploma Applicants – Candidates in this category must possess:
    •  A Diploma or Higher National diploma or its equivalent in a relevant programme from a recognized and accredited institution;
    • Must pass an interview;
    • Two years’ post qualification working experience;
    •  Candidates with HND/relevant professional or diploma certificate whoobtai nedFirst Class or Second Class Upper Division will enter at level 300. Those with SecondClass Lower Division or Pass will enter at level 200.

BSc. Agricultural Engineering SSSCEApplicants

To be admitted to Agricultural Engineering Degree programme, SSSCE Candidates should have Credit Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3)  core subjects; English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; and three (3) elective science subjects; Elective Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Technical Drawing/Auto Mechanics/Metal Work.

WASSCE Applicants

WASSCE Candidates should have Credit Passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects; English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; and three (3) elective science subjects; Elective Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Technical Drawing/Auto Mechanics/Metal Work. 15

Professional and Post-Diploma Applicants

Candidates in this category must possess:      A Diploma or Higher National Diploma or its equivalent in a relevant programme from a recognized and accredited institution;      Must pass an interview;      Two years’ post qualification working experience; Candidates with HND/relevant professional or diploma certificate who obtained First Class or Second Class Upper Division will enter at level 300. Those with Second Class Lower Division or Pass will enter at level 200.

Department of Renewable Energy and Environmental Engineering BSc. Environmental Engineering

SSSCE Applicants To be admitted to Environmental Engineering Degree programme, SSSCE Candidates should have Credit Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects; English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; and three (3) elective science subjects: Physics, Elective Mathematics and Chemistry.

WASSCE Applicants

WASSCE Candidates should have Credit Passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects; English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; and three (3) elective science subjects; Elective Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

Professional and Post-Diploma Applicants

Candidates in this category must possess:      A Diploma or Higher National Diploma or its equivalent in a relevant programme from a recognized and accredited institution;      Must pass an interview;      Two years’ post qualification working experience; Candidates with HND/relevant professional or diploma certificate who obtained First Class or Second Class Upper Division will enter at level 300. BSc. Renewable Energy Engineering SSSCEApplicants

To be admitted to Renewable Energy Engineering Degree programme, SSSCE Candidates should have Credit Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3)  core subjects; English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; and three (3) elective science subjects: Physics, Elective Mathematics and Chemistry/ Technical Drawing.

WASSCE Applicants

WASSCE Candidates should have Credit Passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects; English Language, Mathematics an d Integrated Science; and three (3) elective science subjects; Elective Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Technical Drawing. Diploma Fire, Safety and Disaster Management

  To be admitted into the programme, applicants must possess any of the following: SSSCE/WASSCE certificates with passes (A-D/A1-D7) in three (3) core subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science plus passes in three (3) elective subjects relevant to the choice of programme.
  1. Ordinary Level certificate with passes (1-8) in at least five (5) subjects at

Foreign Applicants

 
  1. Foreign Qualifications: Foreign qualifications acceptable for consideration for admission include International Baccalaureate (IB), IGCSE, GCSE, American Grade 13 examinations and other external qualifications which have equivalences to the WASSCE/SSSCE and the GCE (A Levels).

Mature Students’ Entry

  1. MSc. Computer Science
To be eligible for admission into the MSc. Computer Science Programme, applicants must possess a BSc. degree or its equivalent in Computer Sciences, or any related discipline from an accredited University with a minimum of Second-Class Lower Division. Applicants must demonstrate adequate intellectual capacity for independent work, maturity, effective decision making and problem-solving potentials. In exceptional cases, holders of BSc. Computer Science with a minimum of Third-Class and at-least three years’ relevant working experience would be considered.
  1. MPhil Computer Science
To be eligible for admission into the MPhil Computer Science Programme, applicants must possess a BSc. Degree or its equivalent in Computer Sciences, or any related discipline from an accredited University with a minimum of Second-Class Lower Division. Applicants must demonstrate adequate intellectual capacity for independent work, maturity, effective decision making and problem-solving potentials.           iii. PhD Computer Science To be eligible for admission into the PhD Computer Science Programme, applicants must possess an MPhil in Computer Science or its equivalent from an accredited University. Applicants with qualifications from Science and Engineering backgrounds with a strong Computing and Mathematical background may be considered. Department of Geographic Science
  1. MSc/MPhil Climate Change
To be eligible for admission into the MSc/MPhil Climate Change Programme, applicants must possess a good first degree or its equivalent in the relevant field of study from a recognized institution. The applicant shall normally have obtained a minimum of Second Class (Lower Division) degree in the relevant field (eg. Climate Change and Sustainable Development, Geography, Geophysics, Planning, Land Economy, Agriculture, Environmental Sciences, Sciences, Natural Resources, etc.). Holders of Bachelors degree with a minimum of two (2) years’ working experience may be considered for admission. Holders of post graduate diploma certificates with excellent classification may be admitted. Applicants may go through a selection interview to be organised by the Department.

  1. MPhil Social Forestry and Environmental Governance
To be eligible for admission into the MPhil Social Forestry and Environmental Governance programme, applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent in the relevant field of study from a recognized institution. The applicant shall normally have obtained a minimum of Second Class (Lower Division) degree in the relevant field (eg. natural resources, planning, social science, human geography & Agriculture). Excellent candidates may be admitted into research masters programme in the first instance and later upgraded into the PhD programme after sucessful completion of the course work with GPA of 3.65 and upon recommendations from the Supervisor and Departmental Board.
