SPECIFIC GU ENTRY REQUIREMENTS OF EACH COURSES

SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
Bachelor Commerce (B.COM) 
A candidate must satisfy any of the following minimum requirements:
  • Be a holder of KCSE (or equivalent examination) certificate with a minimum aggregate of C+ and a minimum of C in both mathematics/Business studies and English, or
  • Be a holder of a KACE certificate with a minimum of two principal passes and one subsidiary pass, and a minimum of a credit pass in mathematics at KCE, or
  • Be a holder of a diploma or professional certificates from institutions recognized by the Ministry of Education and/ or Commission for University Education.

Credit Transfers

Holders of KNEC, KIM or University Diplomas, ATD, DCM, Part II CPA/CS/CCP/CISM part III or KNEC Higher Diploma in Business or Equivalent recognized final level professional qualifications will join the programme in 3rd year of study provided credit transfers granted do not exceed 49% of credits offered in the entire B Com programme.
The B Com degree programme shall take 4 academic Years of Study. (8 sememsters in 3 calendar years) in situations where the student is admitted Year 1 Semester 1.

Diploma in: Business Information Technology
A candidate must satisfy the following minimum Requirements:
  • KCSE mean Grade of C- (Minus) or
  • Certificate in relevant discipline or equivalent qualifications.
  • Any other qualification acceptable to the senate of Gretsa University as equivalent to any of the above.
The duration of the programme is 6 semesters or three academic years offered in two calendar years.

Foundation Certificate of Gretsa University
A candidate must satisfy the following minimum Requirements:
  • KCSE mean Grade of D
  • Any other qualification acceptable by the University Senate as equivalent to above.
The Foundation Certificate Programme shall take a duration of 2 semesters or one academic year. Upon graduation, the student will graduate with a Foundation Certificate of Gretsa University and will be eligible for admission to a certificate programme of their choice at Gretsa University.

SCHOOL OF COMPUTING AND INFORMATICS
Admission Requirements
Bachelor Of Science in Computer Science
A candidate must satisfy any of the following minimum requirements:
  • Be a holder of KCSE (or equivalent examination) certificate with a minimum aggregate of C+ or
  • Be a holder of a KACE certificate with a minimum of two principal passes and one subsidiary pass, and a minimum of a credit pass in mathematics at KCE, or
  • Be a holder of a diploma or professional certificates in IT from institutions recognized by the Ministry of Education and/ or Commission for University Education.
The programme shall take 3 academic Years of Study. (8 sememsters in 3 calendar years).

  • Certificate in relevant ICT discipline from recognized institutions.

SCHOOL OF EDUCATION, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
Admission Requirements:
Bachelor of Arts in Community Development
A candidate must satisfy any of the following minimum requirements:
  • Be a holder of KCSE (or equivalent examination) certificate with a minimum aggregate of C+.
  • Be a holder of a KACE or EAACE certificate with two principal passes, or
  • Be a holder of a diploma or professional certificates from institutions recognized by the Ministry of Education and/ or Commission for University Education.

Credit Transfers

Holders of relevant Social Work and/or community development diplomas and professional qualifications recognized by CUE will be admitted in the programme in the 2nd year of study while those with higher diplomas or final level of recognized professional bodies qualifications will be admitted in the 3rd year of study provided credit transfers granted do not exceed 49% of credits offered in the entire degree programme.
The degree programme shall take 4 academic Years of Study. (8 sememsters in 3 calendar years).

Diploma In Education (ARTS)
KCSE minimum mean Grade of C+ (Plus) as well as a C+ in the two subjects the student is to be trained to teach.
The duration of the programme is 6 semesters (5 semesters course work and 1 semester for teaching practice).

A candidate must satisfy the following minimum Requirements:

  • KCE Div III or EACE Div III
  • Certificate in relevant discipline of social sciences from a recognized institution.
The duration of the programme is 6 semesters (5 semesters course work and 1 semester for internship).

Diploma in Special Needs Education
A candidate must satisfy the following minimum Requirements:
  • KCSE minimum mean Grade of C (Plain).
  • Equivalent Certificate recognized by the university senate from a recognized institution.
The duration of the programme is 6 semesters (5 semesters course work and 1 semester for internship).

  • C- (Minus) with pre-university Upgrading Certificate from a recognized institution or
  • P1 or P2 with a KNEC Proficiency Certificate from KNEC (Kenya National Examinations Council).

DIPLOMA IN COMMUNITY NUTRITION AND DIETETICS
A candidate must satisfy any of the following minimum requirements:
  • KCSE mean Grade of C – (Minus ) or its equivalent as ascertained by the Ministry of Education and any other requirements as set by the Kenya Nutritionists and
Dietitians Institute (KNDI). The Mandatory subjects shall be:
  •  C -(Minus ) in English/Kiswahili, Biology/Biological sciences., C-(Minus) in  Chemistry or Physical Sciences.
  • D+ (Plus) in  any of the following: Mathematics ,Physics, Home science, Agriculture, General Sciences
  • A certificate in Community Nutrition and Dietetics from Gretsa University or any other institution recognised by Gretsa University Senate  and  KNDI
  • Bridging: A holder of KCSE certificate or equivalent with a minimum of C -(Minus ) but lacking the Mandatory cluster subjects may be required to undertake a bridging course in the respective courses offered at Gretsa University to qualify for entry.

Diploma in Environmental Health
  1. KCSE mean Grade of C (Plain) or equivalent as ascertained by the ministry of Education in addition to the following mandatory subjects:
  • C  (Plain) in English /Kiswahili, Biology/Biological Sciences.
  • C – (Minus) Mathematics.

Bridging Courses: A holder of KCSE certificate or equivalent with a minimum of C (Plain) but lacking the mandatory cluster subjects may be required to undertake a bridging course in the respective courses offered at Gretsa University or any other university to qualify for entry.
The duration of the programme will be 8 semesters. (7 Semester course work and one semester for attachment).

The duration of the programme will be 5 semesters. (4 Semester course work and one semester for attachment).

Bridging Certificate In Biology
A candidate MUST satisfy any of the following minimum requirements:
  • KCSE certificate or any other qualification acceptable by the University Senate as equivalent
  • REQUIRED mean grade for admission to a  Diploma or Certificate Programme but lacking
Required grade in biology for the MANDATORY cluster subjects.
The programme will be covered in 75 academic hours in a duration of 1 month.

BRIDGING CERTIFICATE IN CHEMISTRY
To be admitted in the programme a candidate must satisfy the following Minimum requirements:
  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E.) of D+ and minimum of D (plain) in chemistry
  • Required mean grade for admission to programme of choice but lacking the required grade in chemistry for the Mandatory cluster
The programme will be covered in a duration of 75 academic hours covered in one month.
