SMU Registration Dates and Deadline for 2025

This article contains the Sefako Makgatho University (SMU) application and registration dates for the 2026 academic year. It also contains a link to the institution’s registration information and the registration portal.

The management of the Sefako Makgatho University (SMU) has opened the student registration portal for fresh and continuing students to register their courses for the semester both at the diploma, undergraduate and the postgraduate level. Specific dates and deadlines have been set for the registration as well as the closure of the registration portal. It is advisable to register early inorder not to lose your studentship at SMU as late registration would not be permitted.

The registration deadline or closing date is always an registration submission timeline that is set by the institution for registering courses and modules for the semester. South African schools (universities and colleges) usually have their submission deadline within 2 weeks to 1 month after the student registration portal is opened.

Therefore, it is expected for all SMU students (both new and old) to meet the the stated registration timeline as stated below to be on the safe side.

06 January 2025	• University re-opens: academic and support staff report for duty
06 January 2025	• Registration commences for all returning (undergraduate & Postgraduate) students.
07 January 2025	• Commencement of the 2026 academic year for returning students: Lectures, clinical sessions, practicum sessions commence for registered returning students, excluding BSC II/ECPIII, BSC III/ECP IV students
13 January 2025	Closing Date: Academic Exclusions Appeals for 2024 academic year
17 January 2025	Last Day: Registration ends for all returning (undergraduate & Postgraduate) students.
21 January 2025	Lectures and practicum sessions commence for BSCII, III, BSC ECPII, III & IV.
22 January 2025	Registration commences for 2025 FTEN students
30 January 2025	Orientation for all First Time Entering students commences
31 January 2025	Registration closes for 2025 FTEN students Orientation for all First Time Entering students ends
19 January 2024	• Last Day: Registration ends for all returning (undergraduate & Postgraduate) students.
22 January 2024	• Registration commences for 2024 First Time Entering (FTEN) students
03 February 2025	. Commencement of 2026 academic year for First Time Entering students
