UCT School of Business Application Status Check 2026/2027
This article explains how to check your UCT Graduate School of Business (UCT GSB) application status and access your admission letter for the 2026/2027 academic year.
HOW TO CHECK YOUR UCT GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS APPLICATION STATUS AND ADMISSION LETTERS
UCT runs two separate application systems, and the one that applies to you depends entirely on how you applied. GSB applicants — those who applied for the Full-Time MBA, Modular MBA, EMBA, PGDip, MCom, or PhD through the GSB website — do not use the central UCT StudentOnline portal to check their status. Using the wrong portal will show you nothing because the two systems do not share records.
Before clicking any link, identify which pathway you used:
- Applied through the UCT GSB website directly? — Your application is in the GSB Pre-application Portal. Follow Section A below.
- Applied through UCT’s central application portal (applyonline.uct.ac.za)? — Your application is in the central UCT PeopleSoft system. Follow Section B below.
Section A: GSB Pre-Application Portal (For GSB Applicants — MBA, EMBA, PGDip, MCom, PhD)
The GSB uses its own dedicated portal that is separate from the main UCT system. When you submitted your application on the GSB website, the school sent you a confirmation email containing a unique Pre-application Portal Link. That link is your access credential — it is the only way into your application file.
- Find the confirmation email sent by the GSB admissions team after you submitted your application. The unique Pre-application Portal Link is inside that email.
- Click directly on that link to open your portal. Do not try to reach it through a Google search or the main UCT website — you will not find it that way.
- Check your status on the dashboard. The GSB admissions team updates the portal as your application moves through the process. You may see statuses such as:
- Application Received
- Under Review
- Documents Outstanding (action required from you)
- Interview Invited
- Provisionally Accepted / Offer Made
- Waitlisted
- Not Successful
- Upload any outstanding documents if the portal requests them. Missing documents can delay or halt your application.
- Download your offer letter from within the Pre-application Portal if you receive an offer. You will get an email notification when a decision is posted. Follow the instructions in that email to formally accept the offer and pay the required deposit.
- After accepting your offer, your data will be transferred to the central UCT student system (StudentsOnline / PeopleSoft). You will then receive a UCT student number and new login credentials to complete module registration.
Important: UCT does not disclose application status by telephone. All updates come through email, SMS notifications, and the portal itself. Keep the email address you used to apply active and monitored throughout the process.
Section B: Central UCT Postgraduate System (PeopleSoft / StudentsOnline)
This path applies to those who applied through UCT’s central application portal. It is not the standard route for GSB programmes, but is covered here for completeness.
- Wait for your acknowledgement email from UCT’s central admissions office. It arrives within three working days of submitting your application and contains your Applicant Number and Login Password.
- Go to the UCT Postgraduate Status Check page:
https://www.uct.ac.za/students/applications-apply-postgraduate-qualifications/check-your-application-status-pg - Log in using your Applicant Number (enter it in UPPER CASE) and the password from your acknowledgement email.
- Track your status and upload documents if requested. The portal may show messages such as “Decision deferred pending receipt of documents,” which means you need to submit something before the review can continue. Use the PeopleSoft Self-Service function to upload what is needed.
- Download your offer letter from the StudentsOnline portal once a decision is made. You will receive an email and/or SMS notification when your status changes. Log in at:
https://studentsonline.uct.ac.za
Navigate to the Admission Letter section to view and download your letter.
Your login details — whether the GSB Pre-application Portal link or the central UCT Applicant Number and password — are issued at the time of application. Keep them safe, as they are the only way to access your file and monitor your progress. Do not discard the confirmation email from either system.
