JOOUST Masters, PhD and Short Courses Admission Form – 2020 Intake

This article contains information on the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, JOOUST & Africa Center of Excellence in Sustainable Use of Insects as Food and Feeds (INSEFOODS) Application form and requirements for admission into selected Masters, PhD and Short Courses Programme for the January, 2020 intake.

The Africa Center of Excellence in Sustainable Use of Insects as Food and Feeds (INSEFOODS) is one of the 24 competitively selected Centers under the World Bank’s Eastern and Southern Africa Higher Education Centers of
Excellence Project II (ACE II). The goal of INSEFOODS is to achieve long-term food and nutritional security by using insects as a cost-effective source of protein and other nutrients for food and feeds. Students interested in conducting thesis research related to insects as food and feeds will qualify for limited support and INSEFOODS guidelines and procedures will apply for support will apply.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified SCHOOL LEAVERS, NON-SCHOOL LEAVERS and SPECIAL CASES.

JOOUST MASTERS, PhD & SHORT COURSES ADMISSION APPLICATION GUIDELINES

The applicants must submit the underlisted documents as hard copies to Board of Postgraduate (BPS) and email a copy as a single PDF file to drinsefoods@jooust.ac.ke

1. Three filled Postgraduate   application forms and two reference letters (Download from:  http://insefoods.jooust.ac.ke/)
2. A formal application letter
3. Curriculum vitae
4. Certified copies of transcripts and certificates
5. For PhD, a concept paper on area of thesis research interest related to insects as food and feed
6. A written justification for support (Limited support available to deserving applicants). OR

• By post, enclosing the applications in an envelope marked INSEFOODS Programmes, to the following address: Director INSEFOODS, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, O. Box 210-40601, Bondo, Kenya.

OR

JOOUST MASTERS, PhD & SHORT COURSES ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

A candidate wishing to be admitted for Master of Economics degree MUST meet the general University requirements. In addition to meeting the general University admission requirements, the candidate must have any of the following:

1. PhD Programme

Doctor of Philosophy in Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture Admission Requirements

Have appropriate preparatory academic training as evidenced by at least one of the following:

1. Be a holder of a Masters Degree in Agricultural and Food Sciences of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology
2. Be a holder of a Masters Degree in Agricultural and Food sciences or an equivalent academic qualification from any other recognized
3. Fulfill specific requirements as may be stipulated by the Department with regard to the field of study
4. Qualified female, persons living with disabilities and applicants from countries emerging from conflicts are encouraged to apply and will be given special consideration)

2. Masters Programme

Master of Science in Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture Admission Requirements

1. Holders of at least Upper Second Class Honours Bachelor’s degree in Food Security, and other Agricultural and Food Sciences or equivalent qualification from recognized Universities.
2. Holders of a Lower Second Class Honours degree in Agricultural and Food Sciences or related field from recognized Universities
3. Related field or postgraduate Diploma in Agriculture, or Agricultural and Food science related fields from any recognized universities and evidence of two years of relevant work
4. In addition to the above, applicants must meet the specific requirements of the Masters Programme as provided by the University
5. Qualified female, persons living with disabilities and applicants from countries emerging from conflicts are encouraged to apply and will be given special consideration)

3.  Short Courses

1. Cricket Rearing and Value Addition
2. Black Soldier Fly Rearing and Value Addition
3. ICT for Research
4. Grants Proposal Writing and CV Development
5. GIS in Food Security

Admission Requirements for Short courses

1. Short Courses no. 1 and 2 (Cricket Rearing & Value Addition and Black Soldier fly Rearing & Value Addition) are meant to promote edible insects as a novel income generating enterprise and food; the minimum requirement is ability to read and write Basic English and access to internet.
2. The other short courses (3-5), applicants must meet the specific requirements of the Short Courses as provided by the University Senate
