For admission into programmes of study at the Thika School of Medical and Health Sciences, TSMHS for any first degree or second degree, an applicant must have the following requirements for successful admission.

THIKA SCHOOL OF MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES, TSMHS ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

To join Thika School of Medical and Health Sciences, TSMHS to pursue a Certificate course, you must have a minimum of C- with specific qualifications in cluster subjects in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations (KCSE). For Diploma programmes, you must have attained a minimum of C with specific qualifications in cluster subjects.

General admission requirements

FULL TIMERS

• The mean entry grades of ALL Diplomas to C- (minus), Certificate level mean grade D Plain and D- (minus) for Artisan level.
• Original official certificates/testimonials i.e. (Result slip/Certificate & Leaving Certificate and an ID or Birth certificate) as well as four recent colored passport photographs.

Course- Specific Admission Requirements

Diploma in Medical Engineering Entry Requirements

Trainee joining this course should have any of the following minimum requirements:

• Passed KCSE with an average grade of C- and above, and Must have done Biology in addition to Mathematics and/or Physicsor
• Passed a relevant craft course and must have done Biology in addition to Mathematics and/or Physics or
• Any other equivalent qualifications approved by the Kenya National Examination Council

DIPLOMA IN APPLIED BIOLOGY

Trainees wishing to pursue this course should have any of the following minimum requirements.

• Passed Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with minimum grade of C- and in addition a minimum grade of C- in each of the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Biology or Biology Science, Chemistry or physical sciences.
• Passed a relevant craft course
• Any other equivalent qualifications approved by the Kenya National Examination Council

Diploma in Medical Engineering

Trainee joining this course should have any of the following minimum requirements:

• Passed KCSE with an average grade of C- and above, and Must have done Biology in addition to Mathematics and/or Physicsor

CERTIFICATE IN SCIENCE LABORATORY

Trainee entering this course should have any of the following minimum requirements.

• Passed Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with minimum grade of D+ (plus) and in addition a minimum grade of D+ (plus) in each of the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Biology or Biology Science, Chemistry or physical sciences.
• Passed a relevant craft course
• Any other equivalent qualifications approved by the Kenya National Examination Council

DIPLOMA IN ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Trainee entering this course should have any of the following minimum requirements.

Passed Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with minimum grade of C plain and in addition a minimum grade of C plain in each of the following subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or physical sciences or Biology.

DIPLOMA IN SOCIAL WORK (KNEC)

• Minimum qualifications are KCSE C-

DIPLOMA IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (KNEC)

• Minimum qualifications are KCSE C-

CERTIFICATE IN SOCIAL WORK (KNEC)

• Minimum qualifications are KCSE D+

DIPLOMA IN PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELING (KNEC)

• Minimum qualifications are KCSE C-

CERTIFICATE IN PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELING

• Minimum qualifications are KCSE D+

DIPLOMA IN PUBLIC HEALTH

Minimum entry requirement diploma
Mean grade of C at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E) level or its equivalent.

MUST have attained;

• English or  Kiswahili – C
• Biology – C
• Mathematics  – C
• Any one between Physics,Chemistry, Physical science,building construction /technical drawing -C MINUS

Minimum entry requirement Certificate
Mean grade of C- at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E) level or its equivalent.

MUST have attained;

• English or  Kiswahili – C minus
• Biology,home science, agriculture – C-
• Mathematics  – C
• Any one between Physics,Chemistry, Physical science,building construction /technical drawing -C MINUS

DIPLOMA IN COMMUNITY HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT

The minimum requirement for admission for Diploma in Community Health and Development Is C- in Kenya Certificate in Secondary Education or its equivalent as ascertained with the ministry of Education and any other certified certificate from other institutions.

CERTIFICATE IN COMMUNITY HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT

The minimum requirement for admission for Certificate in Community Health and Development is D+ in Kenya Certificate in Secondary Education or its equivalent as ascertained with the ministry of Education and any other certified certificate from other institutions.

DIPLOMA IN COMMUNITY HEALTH AND HIV/AIDS MANAGEMENT

The minimum requirement for admission for Diploma in Community Health and HIV/AIDS Management is C- in Kenya Certificate in Secondary Education or its equivalent as ascertained with the ministry of Education and any other certified certificate from other institutions.

DIPLOMA IN ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Trainee entering this course should have any of the following minimum requirements.

Passed Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with minimum grade of C plain and in addition a minimum grade of C plain in each of the following subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or physical sciences or Biology.

Clinical Medicine & Surgery

Mean grade of C at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E) level or its equivalent.

• Mathematics or Physics – C minus

DIPLOMA IN PHYSIOTHERAPY

Minimum entry requirement
Mean grade of C at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E) level or its equivalent.

MUST have attained;

• English or  Kiswahili – C Plain
• Biology – C minus
• Chemistry  – C minus
• Physics or Mathematics or Physical Science – C Minus

Diploma in Medical Laboratory

Trainees entering diploma course should have the following minimum requirements:-

DIPLOMA IN NUTRITION AND DIETETICS

The minimum requirement for admission for Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics is a C-(MINUS) in Kenya Certificate in Secondary Education or its equivalent as ascertained with the ministry of Education and any other requirements as ascertained by KNDI.

Minimum entry requirement
Mean grade of C- at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E) level or its equivalent.

MUST have attained;

• English or  Kiswahili – D+
• Biology – D+
• Chemistry  – D+
• Any one between Physics,Mathematics, Home science,Agriculture, general science -D plain

CERTIFICATE IN NUTRITION AND DIETETICS

The minimum requirement for admission for certificate in nutrition and dietetics is a D(PLAIN) in Kenya Certificate in Secondary Education or its equivalent as ascertained with the ministry of Education and any other requirements as ascertained by KNDI.

Minimum entry requirement
Mean grade of D plain at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E) level or its equivalent.

MUST have attained;

• English or  Kiswahili – D
• Biology – D
• Chemistry  – D
• Any one between Physics,Mathematics, Home science,Agriculture, general science -D plain

Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing

•  Minimum entry age: seventeen (17) completed years.
• Minimum academic requirements: KCSE C (Plain)

Cluster Subjects

• English /Kiswahili –  C
• Biology / Biological Sciences –  C
• Mathematics / Chemistry / Physics –  C-
• Physically and mentally fit to undertake nursing training and practice.
