We are happy to present to you information on the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) Application Status for the 2023/2024 academic session and admission letter as well as the link to check it.
GDE 2023/2024 ADMISSION APPLICATION STATUS
Getting an application done for admission into an institution of your choice can be seen as a level of progress, but trying to know if it is successful or not can be tedious. Therefore, it is not enough to apply to study at the GDE without keeping track of the application status.
With technology, life has been made easier and this has brought an increase in the level of online transactions in all works of life, the educational sector inclusive. Therefore, with the existence of school portals, tracking of your GDE 2023/2024 application status can be done with only a click of a button.
As a result of this, the management of the GDE has released a link where you can track your application status for the 2023/2024 academic session at anywhere and anytime. The application status link shows the names of successful applicants accepted and an upload of admission letters for download.
After applying to the school, it is normal to receive a response from them a few days after the close of applications. This is dependent on when you applied and how you applied. On extremely busy periods, close to closing dates, it will take about 4 to 6 weeks. Oftentimes, hard copy applications take longer, as the application forms still need to be captured. Thus, online applications are quicker and have been constantly recommended for prospective GDE students.
If eventually you don’t receive a response from the school after the period of 6 weeks you do not have to panic. You can easily check your application status on the school portal through the few steps below.
HOW TO CHECK YOUR GDE APPLICATION STATUS AND ADMISSION LETTERS
- Applicants will be notified via SMS regarding the outcome of the application during the Placement Period
- Parents can wait for the offers from different schools and can provisionally accept the first offer. Once an offer of placement is confirmed, all other applications are deactivated
- You will receive an offer of placement from ONE or MORE of the schools in the Placement Period (September to November). You must respond by accepting the offer within 7 days so that you can be placed. If you don not accept, you will forfeit the offer and your child will be placed at a school with available space.
NOTE: if your application is unsuccessful at all the schools you have applied to, the District will facilitate placement in a school where there is space available
Applicants are can also track the status of their application online by following the instructions below:
- Goto the GDE Admission Portal via: https://www.gdeadmissions.gov.za/login/
- Log in with your Application Details, i.e Your username and password received through SMS during the initial stage of your application.
Placement offers will be sent to the cellphone number the parent/guardian registered with from 3 October 2022 to 30 November 2023

I applied last year for child grade 1,I don’t have received respond

I can’t log into my account my password is correct so is my I’d number but it keeps saying my password or id number is wrong I have reset the password but the same thing happens 😞 this is frustrating

I Applied and was placed at Hoerskool Driere rivier . and apparently i was supposed to have gotten and SMS for me to accept the offer but i did not get such SMS. we are frustrated as parents.
I applied for 4 schools, but only one school accepted but the problem is that the school is too far the closed schools didn’t replied at all, really frustrated

I applied for grade 1 admission but I am confused as I did not get any confirmation and when I log in to check my status it says ‘no leaner applied for’ how is that possible I am so stressed please help. Its really frustrating as I have been sending emails from first registration till today no respond as I have issues with your online system not allowing me to apply for my child for grade 8 see below. I don’t know if we should first make noise to media before you can take us serious that you not answering and willing to help due to your system not working I even spend 3hours with one of you who still failed and blamed the system you can track my number that I used to call which is not free of charge,
Good Day, I am a stressed parent as I did not receive an sms from the department to accept admission. When I checked on the GDE site I see my child has been accepted in a school that I did not apply to and that is 9.7 kilometres from where I live (did not receive an sms from this school) whilst the school that is 2.3 km being Edenglen High is the one I selected in my application.
Although an online system was supposed to be easier in registration and admission but it also needs to work seamlessly and this one does not seem like it does.
Good Day, I have no received any sms’s of admission. I went onto the GDE website and my child has been admitted to Hoerskoel Vryburger (no idea where this school is), when googled it shows that this school is 10 kilometres from where I live and the school that I did apply which is Edenglen High is 2.3 kilometres from where I live.
I never received an sms from either schools for acceptance of admission and this is concerning.
Please consider my registration for Edenglen High school as from a travel perspective to Hoerskool Vryburger is too far.
Good Day, did not receive sms as well for acknowledgement of admission. When I checked the GDE site my child was placed in a school I did not select which is a distance from where I live compared to the school that I selected and did not get feedback from which is 2.3 km from my house.

I did apply to Suiderlig high bt it seems like no luck for my son m so stressed
I have made an application the very fist day when the application went online, to my surprise my son was not accepted at any of the schools applied for they chose a school for my son that is 20km away from home I then dispute that and the dispute was dismissed forcing me to take my child to that school. The first school I applied for his brother is attending school there and the grade 8 son not placed there or any of the school I have applied for. Went to the district and the placed him to the school again that I did not applied to and placed at a satellite school in Amandasig with no classes nor furniture and they only attend once a week, what basic education are we building in this manner, I am sitting with a frustrated child and a mother not knowing when will my child attend a proper school, can I be assisted with the school where my kids are at one school, and remove the frustration that is on my kid, I am sending the other child to school the other one I leave him at home not knowing what to do with him the next moment, Gerrit Maritz is the preferred school where I applied and the brother is at the same school.
