The only thing you need right now to apply for admission to the prestigious Nelson Mandela University is for you to be eligible and ready.
The Management of Nelson Mandela University, NMU, is no stranger to technology, as they have made this application exclusively online, unlike the rigorous task of going through the paper-based application only when necessary. This is why they opened an application portal for all high school leavers and those trying to further their studies, either part-time or full-time.

STEPS ON HOW TO APPLY ONLINE FOR NMU ADMISSION
To use the NMU online application feature, you must have a working internet device, a valid email address which is not shared with another NMU applicant, your South African identity number, or, if you are an international applicant, your passport number. Kindly follow the easy steps below to apply online for NMU (Nelson Mandela University Online Application) admission:
STEP 1: Apply Online
- Please apply online via the NMU Application Portal if you are enrolling in Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Study Abroad or Graduate School of Business Exchange Programme.
- Kindly follow the prompt, click on the one that you are and continue.
- Kindly enter your ID number (as a South African) or Passport number (as an International student)
- On the next page, kindly Choose the programme you are interested in and view the admission requirements before proceeding
- You will then be taken to the page where you will be required to fill in all the necessary information, like your Personal Details, Study Choices, References (for postgraduate students only), domicile Address, Residential Address, Postal Address, Contact Details, Demographic Details, Next of Kin, Emergency Contact, Current Activities, Employment, Education, Indemnity and Undertaking, make Payment (Check the NMU Application Fee and how to Pay Here) and upload the necessary Documents.
- When you are done, kindly click on the ‘Submit‘ button to get your application submitted.
STEP 2: Acknowledgement of Application
- You will receive an email confirming online submission of your application immediately.
- Within three working days, you should receive formal acknowledgment of your application.
- Note that this acknowledgement does not mean you’ve been accepted or admitted to NMU.
STEP 3: Upload Supporting Documents
As stated on the NMU Application page, documents must be submitted as certified electronic copies.
STEP 4: Acceptance of Offer
When we update your application, you will receive an email notification. Please monitor your email account closely for updates. You can also check your status online with the log-in credentials that we will send you after you apply. We are not permitted to disclose your application status telephonically.
Final acceptance depends on:
- your final school leaving results meeting the minimum admission requirements for your chosen programme, or
- the submission of your final academic record and certificate of conduct if you are studying elsewhere.

LIST OF REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR NMU ONLINE APPLICATION
- a certified copy of your final Grade 11 exam results or
- a certified copy of your most recent Grade 12 (June/Sept) exam results (no March results), or
- a certified copy of your matriculation certificate/statement of results if you have already passed Grade 12/completed schooling.
- certified copies of your diploma/degree certificates plus academic record(s) and certificate(s) of conduct if you have studied elsewhere,
- a certified copy of your ID (birth certificate if still waiting for ID),
- a certified copy of the identity document of your parent, legal guardian, or surety,
- declaration by your parent / legal guardian / surety if you are a dependent, currently at school, studying at a tertiary institution, or have recently left school and do not have permanent employment when applying or studying at the University.
