This article contains information on the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Application form and Requirements for admission into the following programmes for the 2024 academic year.

Applications to study for the listed postgraduate programmes above in 2024/2025 are now open for both internal and external applications. INTERNAL APPLICANTS are students currently registered at TUT for the 2024 academic year. EXTERNAL APPLICANTS refer to any graduate who meet requirements for the qualification.

TSHWANE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, TUT POSTGRADUATE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR POSTGRADUATE STUDIES

 One-year post-diploma qualifications
  • A student will not be admitted to a one-year post-diploma qualification unless he or she is the holder of a suitable national diploma or an equivalent qualification in an applicable field.

Master’s degrees (HEQSF aligned)
  • A student will not be admitted to a master’s degree (NQF Level 9 (HEQSF aligned)) unless he or she is already in possession of a bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 8)
  • bachelor honours degree (NQF Level 8); postgraduate diploma (NQF level 8)
  • or a bachelor’s degree in technology (NQF Level 7), with possible supplementary course work as stated in the admission statements of each programme
  • or an equivalent qualification in a relevant field.
Master’s degree in Technology (Magister Technologiae)
  • A student will not be admitted to enrol for a master’s degree in technology unless he or she is already in possession of a suitable bachelor’s degree in technology or an equivalent qualification in a relevant study field.
Doctoral Degree (HEQSF aligned)
  • A student will not be permitted to enrol for a doctoral degree (NQF Level 10) unless he or she is already in possession of a master’s degree (HEQSF aligned) or an equivalent qualification in a relevant study field.
  • For admission to specific doctoral qualifications, refer to relevant Faculty Prospectus admission requirements.
Doctorate in Technology (Doctor Technologiae)
  • A student will not be permitted to enrol for a doctorate in technology unless he or she is already in possession of a master’s degree in technology or an equivalent qualification in a relevant study field

 Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Postgraduate Application Procedures

  • Step 1: Read through the admission requirements and selection criteria of the programme as outlined above
  • Step 2: If satisfied that you meet the general admission requirements and specific subjects requirements, then complete the electronic application form.
  • Step 3: Prepare an electronic copy of your academic record as well as documents to upload.

NOTE:

  • Admission to all programmes is subject to evaluation. No prospective student will be allowed to register for any programmes without prior evaluation.
  • Registration for post-diploma qualifications, with the exception of postgraduate qualifications, takes place simultaneously with registration for the four-year baccalaureus technologiae degrees and the national diplomas.
  • Prospective students for postgraduate studies must apply for admission to the relevant programmes and academic departments on the required application form before the official closing date. (Also see the publication Students’ guidelines for postgraduate study.)
  • Registration for a postgraduate degree takes place before a set closing date for postgraduate registration.
  • All students must register for each academic year within the registration period, and must make the required initial payment.
  • Registration as a student is valid for one (1) academic year only. Should a student fail to register for the subsequent academic year, he or she has to apply for re-admission, register and pay the full amount (subject fee) required again.
  • An annual administration fee is payable in respect of each period of registration until the student has completed his or her programme.
  • It is a student’s own responsibility to register each year. Only registered students may receive service from their supervisors.

  • Application fee for Postgraduate applications is R300

UPDATING YOUR APPLICATION

You need to submit additional documents to the Admissions Office. This may include the following:

  • Certified paper copies of documents uploaded online as part of your application
  • Academic transcripts which may not have been available at the time of your application must be uploaded to our student system; please log in using your username and password, and complete the submission; certified paper copies of such uploaded documents must be submitted
  • Where applicable, evidence of English language proficiency must be provided

SUBMISSION DATES FOR SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS AND ACADEMIC RECORDS

The TUT University reserves the right to cancel any application if all the necessary certified paper copies or original transcripts are
not submitted on time.

TUT POSTGRADUATE APPLICATION DEADLINE

Applications for most higher degrees by research and other postgraduate programmes may be lodged at any time during the year is 30 July 2024 for international students. 31 January 2025 for South African citizens.
