WSU APS: How to Calculate WSU Admission Point Score 2023/2024

0

This is an article that contains a guide to calculating your WSU APS (Admission Point Score) for the 2024 academic year. We have adopted the selection criteria of various courses for the coming admission year.

Walter Sisulu University, WSU Admission Point Score Among the many requirements needed for admission into the Walter Sisulu University, WSU, the admission point score is the most necessary. For those of us who might be asking what an admission point score means. It is simply an accumulation of grade points needed for admission into the University. The WSU APS for various courses is determined by using a constant calculation formula which will be stated in this article.  Every year, the management of the Walter Sisulu University publishes a standard Admission Point Score for all courses which can be used as a constant in determining the selection of prospective students into undergraduate programmes. Bear in mind that the WSU APS is only used as a selection criteria for undergraduate admission and not for postgraduate studies.  Kindly check below for the steps on how to calculate the Walter Sisulu University Admission Point Score for the 2024 academic year.

HOW TO CALCULATE THE WALTER SISULU UNIVERSITY, WSU ADMISSION POINT SCORE

The formula used in calculating the WSU admission point score is a summation of all your six (6) best high school subjects (excluding Life Orientation), the total percentage you get is your admission point. Kindly check below for an illustration and example of the APS.
How to determine your Admission Point Score (APS)
An Admission Point Score (APS), explained below, has been developed for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) and the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) based on the Achievement Rating of each subject. The percentages achieved in National Senior Certificate examinations (preliminary and final examinations) will be allocated an admissions score using the percentage obtained for each subject.
BUSINESS, MANAGEMENT SCIENCE & LAW UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES
Admission Point Score Applicants who have obtained an NSC qualification must meet the required Admission Point Score (APS) score that is set for each programme. NSC results are translated into points for each NSC subject. Results of interviews and other assessments may also be taken into account in determining the total APS or Admission Point Score. Unless otherwise stated within a programme prospectus the Faculty of Science, Engineering & Technology has, in terms of the new NSC, allocated a rating system according to levels as follows: APS
Level Percentage Symbol Status of achievement APS
7 90-100% A+ Outstanding achievement 9
7 80-90% A Outstanding achievement 8
6 70-79% B Meritorious achievement 7
5 60-69% C Substantial achievement 6
4 50-59% D Moderate achievement 5
3 40-49% E Adequate achievement 4
2 30-39% F Elementary achievement 1
1 0-29% G Not achieved – Fail 0

EDUCATION UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES
Admission Point System (APS)
The Education programme endeavours to use a point system for admissions. The achievement levels are then translated into points for each NSC subject. Points will be used to calculate the total Admission Point Score (APS).
  •  The minimum APS required for likely admission into Diploma programmes (ND ABET and ULME) shall be 20.
  • The minimum APS required for a Bachelor’s degree is 26.
The Education Admissions Committee considered the administration of admission point score as proposed by HESA. The Committee appreciates the breakdown made in the achievement levels as this advantages a student whose performance is better than others. On the basis of the HESA proposal the points will be awarded as in the following example: NSC percentage per subject points

It should be noted that the above scoring system excludes Life Orientation and Mathematical Literacy. Points for these two are allocated as follows:
