WBS Application Status Check 2026/2027
This article covers how to check your Wits Business School (WBS) application status and access your admission letter for the 2026/2027 academic year, including the correct portal links, step-by-step login instructions, and what the different status messages mean.
Getting an application in is one thing — keeping track of what happens next is another. The good news is that Wits has a dedicated self-service portal where you can log in at any time to check exactly where your application stands. You do not need to wait for an email or call the university, though those options exist too. Everything is in the portal.
One important correction from earlier versions of this article: there is no fixed 4-to-6-week response window for WBS postgraduate applications. The university has officially stated that there is no set timeframe for postgraduate decisions, and that most final decisions are made towards the end of the academic year or the beginning of the new one. Apply early if you want the best chance of hearing sooner.
HOW TO CHECK YOUR WITS BUSINESS SCHOOL APPLICATION STATUS AND ADMISSION LETTERS
The only official portal for checking your WBS application status is the Wits Student Self-Service Portal. Do not use any third-party websites or agents — Wits will not engage with third parties, and doing so puts your personal information at risk.
Step 1 — Where to go:
Go directly to: https://self-service.wits.ac.za
Step 2 — Log in with your credentials:
- User ID: Your Person Number (also called Student Number) — sent to you by email immediately after you submitted your application through the Wits Online Application Portal at https://www.wits.ac.za/applications/
- Password: The password you created when filling in your online application form.
Do not confuse your Person Number with your South African ID number. The Person Number is a unique code assigned by the Wits system — it is in your acknowledgement email.
Step 3 — Navigate to your application status:
Once logged in, follow this path:
Main Menu > Self Service > Student Centre > Admissions > View Academic Application Status
This is where your current application status is displayed. Check the Communication History tile regularly as well — all official messages, offers, and requests from the admissions team are logged there.
Step 4 — What the status messages mean:
- Application Received — Your application is in the system. No action needed yet.
- Application Incomplete — Something is missing (e.g., transcripts, certified degree copies, proof of work experience). Log in immediately, identify what is missing, and upload it using the “Upload supporting documents” function in the portal.
- Application Under Review / Pending Assessment — Your file is complete and is being evaluated by the WBS admissions committee. Wait — no action is needed from your side at this point.
- Conditional Offer — You have been offered a place, subject to conditions (e.g., submitting a final degree certificate or certified transcripts). Read the conditions carefully and meet them promptly.
- Unsuccessful — Your application has not been successful for this intake. You may consider reapplying in a future cycle.
Step 5 — Viewing and downloading your admission letter:
- Go to https://self-service.wits.ac.za
- Log in with your Person Number and password.
- Check the Communication History tile for your offer or admission notification.
- Download and save your admission letter from within the portal. Print a copy for your personal records.
NOTE: Admission letters are available for viewing and download within the portal. The university operates digitally — physical letters are not typically mailed. If you receive an offer, you must formally accept it through the portal by the stated deadline, or the offer may be withdrawn.
To confirm whether you have been granted a place at the university, you need the login details assigned to you during the initial application process — your Person Number and your self-created password. Keep these secure. Do not share them with anyone. The university will not engage with third parties acting on your behalf.
If you cannot access the portal or have forgotten your credentials, contact Wits through the official channels below:
- Student Call Centre: +27 (0) 11 717 1888
- Email: ask.wits@wits.ac.za
- AskWits Online Portal: https://www.wits.ac.za/askwits/
Be alert to fraudulent offers. Any communication that looks suspicious — poor grammar, unusual payment requests, promises to guarantee admission — should be disregarded. All legitimate offers come through the official self-service portal only.
Congratulations to all successful applicants who made it to Wits Business School for 2026.
