JKUAT School of Medicine Application Form - 2020/2021 Intake

Applications are invited for admissions into the following programmes for self-sponsored students in the School of Medicine (SOMED) starting in May 2022. For their training all the students will be based at COHES, JKUAT Main Campus.

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) is one of the most popular higher education institutions in Kenya, and the School of Medicine shares its reputation for excellence in teaching and research in medicine. The School of Medicine is located within the College of Health sciences, JKUAT Main campus in Juja.

The Bachelors in Medicine and Surgery course (MBChB) integrates a vibrant 6 year undergraduate course in clinical training tailored to local and international needs with an aim of improving human health.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified SCHOOL LEAVERS, NON-SCHOOL LEAVERS, and SPECIAL CASES.

JKUAT SCHOOL OF MEDICINE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The following shall be eligible for consideration for admission into the degree programme:-

Course Minimum Entry Requirements
Diploma in Clinical Medicine KCSE mean grade of C Plain or its equivalent and passed in the subject cluster as indicated hereunder:

a) Alternative A                                           b) Alternative B

English or Kiswahili – C Plain                       English or Kiswahili – C Plain Biology – C Plain                                           Biological Sciences – C Plain

Chemistry – C Minus                                     Physical Sciences -C Minus Mathematics or Physics – C Minus               Mathematics – C Minus

OR Have any other qualifications accepted by the University Senate as equivalent to above.

BSc. in Clinical Medicine and Community Health (Upgrading Module) Applicants must have a Diploma/Higher National Diploma in Clinical Medicine from an institution recognized by the JKUAT Senate.

OR Have any other qualifications accepted by the University Senate as equivalent to above.

NB: Learning for the upgrading module will be done on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Bachelor of Science in Comprehensive Ophthalmology and Cataract Surgery Applicants must

a)   Have a Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from an institution recognized by the University Senate,

OR

b)   Have a Higher National Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery (Ophthalmic and Cataract Surgery)  from an institution recognized by the University Senate,

OR

c)   Have any other qualifications accepted by the University Senate as equivalent to above.

OR

BSc. In Clinical Medicine.

1.2  Duration and Structure of the Course

a)    The course will be divided into two parts: basic sciences section that will run for three trimesters and will be offered from JKUAT main campus and the clinical section that will be offered from SABATIA EYE HOSPITAL that will run for between four to six trimesters

b)   The academic year shall be divided into three trimesters.

c)   Students who are holders of diploma in clinical medicine or any other relevant qualification will be admitted for a total of 9 trimesters.

d)   Students who are holders of higher national diploma in ophthalmic and cataract surgery will be admitted for a total of 7 trimesters.

e)   Students shall be required to register for the trimester units within the first two weeks of the trimester.

f)   There will be two elective terms in the second and third years of study respectively.

g)   Students who are holders of Bachelor of clinical medicine will be exempted from first year units.

JKUAT SCHOOL OF MEDICINE ADMISSION APPLICATION GUIDELINES

Candidates seeking admission are required to fill application forms obtained from the offices indicated below upon payment of non-refundable application fees of Kshs.500/-for certificate, Kshs. 1,000/- for Diploma and Kshs.1,500/- for under graduate courses. Completed application forms should be returned not later than (DATE IS YET TO BE ANNOUNCED)

    Does he gualify to study bachelor of Medicine and Surgery?
