MAK Postgraduate Application Form 2026/2027

The Academic Registrar of Makerere University invites applications for admission to Graduate Programmes (Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and Doctoral Degree Programmes) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year.

All Graduate Programmes are PRIVATELY-SPONSORED. Applicants should note that the various fees payable to the University indicated for the various programmes EXCLUDE functional fees, accommodation, books, research and other expenses. Applicants seeking sponsorship must provide proof of sponsorship where applicable.

MAK POSTGRADUATE APPLICATION PROCEDURE & ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Entry Requirements:

Applicants must:

• Hold at least a First Class or Second Class degree or its equivalent from a recognised and chartered university or institution
• Possess a Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least 5 Passes (or equivalent)
• Possess a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with at least two Principal Passes and one Subsidiary Pass obtained at the same sitting (or equivalent)
• Meet any programme-specific requirements as outlined by the respective College

PhD DEGREES BY RESEARCH ONLY:

All Colleges offer PhD degrees through Research. Applicants for PhD by research should have a Master’s degree in a field relevant to their area of further studies. Applicants will be required to submit their applications online at any time or in Room 410, Level 4 with a synopsis.

Duration of Programmes

• Postgraduate Diplomas – One Academic Year
• Masters degrees (full time) – Two Academic Years
• Masters degrees (part time) – Three to Four Academic Years
• Masters of Medicine – Three Academic Years
• Master of Public Health (Day) – Two Academic Years
• Master of Public Health (Distance) – Three to Five Academic Years
• PhD (Provisional Admission) – One Academic Year (Maximum)
• PhD (Full Admission) – Three Academic Years
• PhD/MD/LLD (full time) – Three Academic Years
• PhD/MD/LLD (part time) – Five Academic Years

Application Procedure

Applications are submitted online via the Makerere University application portal. Follow the steps below:

1. Visit the Makerere University Admissions portal: https://apply.mak.ac.ug
2. Sign up using your full name, e-mail address and mobile number. Your name must match your supporting academic documents.
3. A password will be sent to both your e-mail and mobile number.
4. Change the password to one you can easily remember.
5. Click on the APPLY NOW button (first-time applicants) or MY PORTAL button (renewal of application) for the appropriate scheme: Taught PhDs, Masters & Postgrad Diplomas, or PhD by Research.
6. Scan and upload all academic transcripts, certificates and passport photos.
7. Download, complete, scan and upload the referee’s letter of recommendation: Download Referee Letter
8. Obtain a payment reference number by clicking “Pay for Form” and make payment at any URA-designated bank:
   • Application fee: UGX 50,000 (East African applicants)
   • Application fee: UGX 151,500 (International applicants)

9. Strictly observe the closing date. No applications will be accepted after the deadline.
10. All Applicants for Master of Laws (LLM) will take a Graduate Admission Test (GAT) consisting of an oral interview and written test.
11. All Applicants for Master of Business Administration (MBA) will do a GMAT test on dates communicated by the respective College.

Application Deadline

• The closing date for submission of application forms is 30th April 2026. No applications will be accepted after the deadline.
