The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is offering an exciting Master’s Studentship opportunity in the Emerging Digital Technologies for Fourth Industrial Revolution (EDT4IR) Research Centre, as part of the Next Generation Enterprises and Institutions Cluster. This program aims to support talented individuals in conducting original research on Security and/or Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) for the Internet of Things (IoT). The research opportunity will be based in Pretoria, South Africa.

CSIR Masters Studentship Eligibility

To be eligible for this Master’s Studentship opportunity, candidates must possess:

  • An Honours degree or equivalent NQF Level 8 qualification in computer/electronic engineering, computer science, or related fields.
  • A strong understanding of Smart Grid systems, IoT, and other enabling technologies, particularly Security and/or Distributed Ledger Technologies/Blockchain (advantageous).
  • Solid knowledge of computer science fundamentals and programming skills.
  • Good quantitative skills, such as mathematics, statistics, computer science, or networking.
  • The ability to generate research questions and hypotheses, review and synthesize existing research, and identify significant knowledge gaps.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for professional and public audiences.
  • Enthusiasm, self-motivation, and a willingness to learn.
  • The ability to work well under pressure, both independently and as part of a team.

CSIR Masters Studentship Application Procedure

Please attach the following documents to your application:

  1. A research statement/philosophy abstract (maximum two pages) that highlights the problem statement, research questions, research objectives, and expected outputs/outcomes/impact of the research.
  2. Certified copies of your most recent academic results or transcript.
  3. Certified copies of your tertiary qualifications.
  4. Your curriculum vitae.
  5. If applicable, proof of registration from the university or a confirmation letter from the university supervisor that they are willing to be involved in your supervision.
