DHET WorldSkills Competition 2024: Applications Open

The South African Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) has opened applications for the WorldSkills Competition, which will be held in Lyon, France, in 2024 (Lyon, France Welcomes the Skills Community in 2024) [3]. The competition is a global event that aims to promote excellence in skills and showcase the expertise of young professionals and students from around the world.

Table of Contents

To qualify for the competition, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be undertaking an apprenticeship or learnership
  • Be undertaking studies towards a qualification at a South African TVET College or Technical High School
  • Be undertaking studies towards a Diploma at a University of Technology for the skills of Mobile Robotics, CNC Turning, Health and Social Care, Mechatronics, and Fashion Technology
  • Must be 22 years old or younger by September 2024, and 25 years old or younger for the above-mentioned skills

Interested candidates can apply by visiting the WorldSkills South Africa website at http://worldskillsza.dhet.gov.za/applications [1]. The application deadline is April 20th, 2023 (WorldSkills, Z. A., 2023) [4].

The WorldSkills Competition is an opportunity for young people to showcase their skills and compete at a global level. By participating in the competition, they can gain recognition, enhance their career prospects, and be part of a global network of skilled professionals.

South Africa has a strong record of success at the WorldSkills Competition, with its competitors winning multiple medals in previous events (Worldskills South Africa Dominates at the Worldskills Africa Competition) [4].
