We are pleased to announce that the application for the FirstRand Foundation Honours Bursary for 2024 is now open.

The collaboration between the prestigious FirstRand Foundation and Tomorrow Trust has carved a unique avenue for future leaders. Established as one of South Africa’s biggest companies in 1998, the FirstRand Foundation, a joint venture between FirstRand Limited and its key franchises (FNB, RMB, and WesBank), is devoted to social investment. Leveraging the strength of Tomorrow Trust, the foundation provides postgraduate bursaries in select disciplines, enabling aspiring individuals to further their academic endeavours.


FirstRand Foundation Honours Bursary Eligibility

To be eligible for the FirstRand Foundation Honours Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Demographics: South African citizenship is mandatory.
  • Age Limit: Applicants should be between 18 and 35 years old.
  • Educational Achievements:
    • Secured a minimum of 60% in metric mathematics.
    • Achieved an average of 60% or more during their undergraduate studies.
  • Current Academic Status:
    • I will enrol as a final-year undergraduate student in 2023.
    • Must be pursuing the 3rd year of a 4-year honours-level degree in 2022.
    • The bursary is exclusive to those pursuing their first postgraduate degree.
  • Financial Threshold: The gross family income should not exceed R600,000 annually.
  • BEE Alignment: Preference will extend to students in alignment with the BBBEE Act.
  • Graduates must have completed their undergraduate studies between January 2021 and December 2023 and should not be studying in 2023.

Application Procedure

Follow the guidelines below to ensure your application is received and processed without hitches:

  1. Completing the application:
    • Visit the application page here.
    • Read all sections diligently and provide accurate information.
    • Make sure to choose the correct funding opportunity during the application process.
  2. Documentation:
    • All applicants should provide the following:
      • A motivation letter discussing the chosen field of study and post-graduation intentions
      • certified copy of ID.
      • Honours acceptance letter for 2023.
      • Proof of household income, including SASSA & affidavits.
      • Current academic transcript.
      • Certified Matric Certificate
    • Applicants below 18 years of age require:
      • Guardian consent form, which can be downloaded here.
      • Certified ID of the guardian.
    • Attach all the required documents. Incomplete or misrepresented applications will not be considered.
  3. Submission and Communication:
    • On submission, you’ll receive an email confirmation.
    • Successful candidates will be shortlisted and invited for interviews. If you do not hear from the foundation within four months of the closing date, consider your application unsuccessful.
