We are pleased to announce that the application for the 2024 RAPCAN Legacy Doctoral Scholarship Grant is now open.

Child abuse and neglect are pressing concerns in our nation, and there is a glaring need for comprehensive research to address and mitigate them. The RAPCAN Legacy Doctoral Scholarship Grant is designed to push the boundaries of our current understanding and foster preventive measures. By focusing on the multi-disciplinary nature of child protection, RAPCAN offers a unique opportunity for dedicated doctoral students to get into the subject and make a tangible difference.

RAPCAN Legacy Doctoral Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the RAPCAN Legacy Doctoral Scholarship Grant, applicants must:

  • Financial Status: Qualify as financially deserving according to UCT’s means test.
  • Academic Excellence: Exhibit exemplary performance at the postgraduate level.
  • Nationality: Be a full-time South African doctoral student.
  • Research Focus: Embark on research projects related to Child Protection in South Africa. Emphasis is laid on studies that delve into the prevention of child abuse and neglect.

RAPCAN Legacy Doctoral Scholarship Application Procedure

To apply for the RAPCAN grant, follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Email Submission:
    • Draft an email to pgfunding@uct.ac.za with the subject line “RAPCAN”.
    • Attach a concept note highlighting a viable research topic in the field of child protection.
    • Include a letter of endorsement from a prospective UCT supervisor.
  2. Online Financial Aid Application:
    • Beyond the email submission, candidates must complete the PG Financial Aid Online Funding Application to evaluate their financial requirements.
    • Access the application via the Student PeopleSoft portal. Navigate to the “Postgrad & Postdoc Funding” tile and then proceed with the PG Online Funding Application for 2024.

Application Date
