Authority of the institution has released the amount payable as school fees for Undergraduate programmes for the new academic session.  Rhodes University, RU Fee Structure: 2024/2025 This is to inform all the prospective candidates offered provisional admission or probably seeking admission into the Rhodes University, RU for 2024/2025 academic session that the management of the institution has released the amount they are required to pay as acceptance fee. We specifically publish this information here today, for all people who need to know the current school fees of the Rhodes University, RU. Please note that if you have applied for admission to the Rhodes University, RU or if you are already a student, it is advised that you know the current tuition fees for all students, and this knowledge will help you, avoiding making mistakes that will cost you your admission.

TUITION FEE OVERVIEW

There are two basic fees (tuition and residence) and some additional lesser fees (e.g. for handouts or special examination costs).  
  1. Tuition fees for undergraduate degrees range from R39 493 to R71 387. 
  2. Residence fees range from R78 488 to R82 403 for undergraduate residences and R93 009 for postgraduate residence. 

PAYMENT OPTIONS 

Payment options that are available follow, but please carefully note the payment due dates if you wish to be accommodated in residence. Registration will not be permitted if none of the options below have been taken up.  The Initial Fee is required upfront and cannot be paid by payment arrangement unless you opt for a Debit Order. 
Option 1 
SOUTH AFRICAN STUDENTS (excluding NSFAS)  Pay an Initial Fee Payment (roughly 10% of tuition fees and where applicable 25% of residence fees), by 20 January for returning students and 30 January for new first year students;  The Initial Fee Payment: 
  • Tuition only: R6 190. Or 
  • Tuition and Residence: R6 190 + R20 095 = R26 285.  
The balance of fees to be paid as set out below;  Tuition Residence 
  • By Initial Fee Payment Due Date 21 Jan/03 Feb 10% 25% Paid A further 25% of fee amount by 31 Mar 35% 50% Paid 
  • A further 25% of fee amount by 30 Jun 60% 75% Paid 
  • A further 25% of fee amount by 30 Sep 85% 100% Paid 
  • Any balance still outstanding 30 Nov 100% Paid 
Extras to be paid monthly per student fee statements. 
Option 2 
Make a direct deposit or internet transfer of the full tuition fee and if applicable, the full tuition and residence fee, prior to 20 January for returning students and before 30 January for new first year students. A 5% discount may be claimed in writing if you opt for this option. The discount cannot be applied to tuition or Residence fee separately they are considered the full fee when taken together.

Option 3 
Arrange payment of the full fees by debit order with 11 monthly instalments from 1 February to 1 December. The debit order application form, obtainable from the Student Bureau, the Student Fees Office or on the Rhodes website under Studying, Fees and Financial Aid, must be completed and signed by the person whose bank account is to be debited and returned, together with all other documentation, to the Student Fees Office by 10 January. This may be done via email: debitorders@ru.ac.za or fax: 046 603 7019. Incomplete applications will not be considered, and the facility must be approved prior to 20 January. 

NSFAS STUDENTS 

Option 1: 
  • This applies to all students who have been granted NSFAS funding 
  • NSFAS students are not required to pay an Initial Fee Payment. 
Extras to be paid monthly per student fee statements. 

FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS 

New and returning international students will be required to pay 50% of their tuition and residence fees for the year by 20 January for returning students and 30 January for new first year students.  The balance of fees to be paid by the 31 May .  Extras to be paid on receipt of student fee statements. 

International Students Initial Fee Payment:  Option 1

Tuition only R29 900  or  Tuition and residence R71 500  Option 2   Make a direct deposit or internet transfer of the full tuition fee and, if applicable, the full residence fee, prior to 20 January 2023 for returning students and 30 January 2023 for new first year students. A 5% discount may be claimed in writing if you opt for this option.

Cost of meals: 

Meals for Oppidans (Students who live off-campus) 
  • Meal options available are breakfast, lunch and supper on weekdays and weekends. The costs vary: Breakfast R18.12 Lunch/Supper 48.76 (each)  
Meals for residence students: 
  • Breakfast R13.85 Lunch/Supper R32.62 (each) 

EXAMINATION FEES 

Must be paid at the start of each semester for ordinary examinations written by students returning to write on extended DP certificates.  Students who fail to provide acceptable identification at examinations will be fined R330.00 per exam session.
