CPUT APS: How to Calculate CPUT Admission Point Score 2023/2024

This is an article that contains a guide to calculating your CPUT APS (Admission Point Score) for the 2024 academic year. We have adopted the selection criteria of various courses for the coming admission year.

The CPUT APS for various courses is determined by using a constant calculation formula which will be stated in this article. 

Every year, the management of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology publishes a standard Admission Point Score for all courses which can be used as a constant in determining the selection of prospective students into undergraduate programmes. Bear in mind that the CPUT APS is only used as a selection criteria for undergraduate admission and not for postgraduate studies.

HOW TO CALCULATE THE CAPE PENINSULA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, CPUT ADMISSION POINT SCORE 

The formula used in calculating the CPUT admission point score is a summation of all your six (6) best high school subjects (excluding Life Orientation), the total percentage you get is your admission point. Kindly check below for an illustration and example of the APS.

For a successful admission into CPUT, You must meet the individual subject admission requirements for the qualification.   In addition, you must also meet the minimum APS scores using any of the METHODS that applies to the qualification you are applying for.

METHOD 1: Best of six subjects

The APS is calculated using the percentage score for the 6 highest scoring subjects including those required subjects such as Mathematics, Physical Science, and English, but excluding Life Orientation and adding up all the raw scores, and dividing by 10.

APS score (min) 304 / 10 = 30.4
METHOD 2: Double Maths and Science plus English and the next best subject

The APS is calculated using the percentage score for the required subjects such as Mathematics, Physical Sciences, English and a 4th highest subject, but excluding Life Orientation. Multiply the marks for Mathematics and Physical Sciences by 2 and add up all the raw scores, then divide by 10.

Phys Science 50% x 2 100

APS score (min) 321 / 10 = 32.1

METHOD 3: Double Maths and Accounting, plus English and the 3 next best subjects

The APS is calculated using the doubling the percentage score for Mathematics and Accounting, and then adding the 4 next best subjects (excluding Life Orientation), then dividing by 10.
