Every year, the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA) publishes vacant positions for interested and qualified South African citizens to apply for. This year is not an exception. Therefore, the jobs are listed below together with their requirements, roles, salaries, and qualifications.

The Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa is the largest and oldest association of independent (private) schools in the Southern African region. ISASA traces its origins to the Conference of Headmasters and Headmistresses, originally formed in 1929.

ISASA is a non-profit, voluntary association, and schools elect to apply for ISASA membership. Each member school pays an annual subscription fee, and in return, ISASA provides its members with a range of services. These include financial, advocacy, school best practices, professional development, and other services.

This circular is published on a weekly basis and contains advertisements for vacant posts and jobs in the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA). Although the circular is issued by the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA), the team is not responsible for the content of the advertisements. 1. Head: Student Learning Support and Success

The Ridge School has a proud history of meeting boys where they are at, designing individualized learning journeys with the aim of developing flourishing, happy boys.

Function as Head of Student Learning Support and Success:

  • Working alongside the School Leadership Team to ensure that the School is aligned with the guidelines for inclusive education as laid out in Education White Paper 6 (Department of Education, 2001)
  • Overseeing the day-to-day operation of the School’s Learning Support and Inclusion policy
  • Driving the inclusive agenda so that appropriate practices are embedded in the culture of the School
  • Being the key point of contact and liaison with classroom teachers, remedial therapists, external therapists and parents in coordinating provision for students with learning support needs
  • Overseeing and managing case conferences, provide feedback and ensure follow-through
  • Working with admissions and heads of grades to ensure that prospective students can be adequately supported
  • Leading and mentoring the learning support team
  • Assisting pupils with learning support needs with the transition to High School

The incumbent should:

  • Have a warm, relationship-centred disposition
  • Have a track record of leading and inspiring teams
  • Care deeply about the growth of young boys
  • Have extensive experience and weighty academic qualifications in this field
  • Have experience in assessment referrals and processes surrounding these referrals
  • Have knowledge of IEB accommodation and concession processes
  • Be drawn towards classroom teaching which would also form a part of this role

2. Academic Learning Support– Grade 1-6

Minimum Requirements:

  • A degree in Education (B.Ed Foundation Phase or Intermediate Phase or PGCE). Applicants with a further qualification in Inclusive Education or Barriers to Learning will be preferred.
  • At least two years experience as a remedial teacher in a primary school environment.
  • Knowledge of the Response to Intervention approach and Read for Africa intervention program would be an advantage.
  • Experience in creating an Individualised Education Plan.
  • Be willing to regularly adapt independent learning programmes.
  • Be a team player and willing to contribute to a multi-disciplinary team approach.
  • Knowledge of the CAPS curriculum.
  • Commitment to the extramural programme of the school.
  • SACE registration will be preferred.
  • Police clearance certificate or proof of registration.
