Every year, the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA) publishes vacant positions for interested and qualified South African citizens to apply for. This year is not an exception. The Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa is the largest and oldest association of independent (private) schools in the Southern African region. ISASA traces its origins to the Conference of Headmasters and Headmistresses, originally formed in 1929.

ISASA is a non-profit, voluntary association, and schools elect to apply for ISASA membership. Each member school pays an annual subscription fee, and in return, ISASA provides its members with a range of services. These include financial, advocacy, school best practices, professional development, and other services.

This circular is published on a weekly basis and contains advertisements for vacant posts and jobs in the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA). Although the circular is issued by the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA), the team is not responsible for the content of the advertisements. ISASA CAREER (VACANT) POSITIONS, ROLES, REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS 

Applications are invited from qualified individuals for the positions shown below.

1. Social Worker

Experience to be suitable for this role includes:

  • A relevant social work qualification from a recognized institution, with proof of registration with the SACSSP.
  • 5 – 10 years’ experience in dealing with clients, specifically the girl child and girl adolescents.
  • Facilitation and counselling experience between clients in need and offering the relevant support.
  • Vast knowledge in individual and family case interviews to identify the nature and extent of problems.
  • A proven ability to act as a mediator and provide referrals to the community and selfhelp resources.
  • Display insight to analyse, develop, promote, and implement therapy, counselling and student wellness frameworks and policies.
  • An awareness and understanding of Transformation and Diversity matters especially within a school environment
  • Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate the following:
  • Experience in some form of administration and management role.
  • A proven record of commitment, and professionalism within the realms of social work and counselling is essential.
  • The willingness to embrace the rapid change in education, and the effect that this has, especially within education.
  • High levels of confidentiality, compliance with all “best interest of the child” statutory protocols and ethical behaviour.
  • Effective organizational skills with the ability to manage pressure, deadlines, and the expectations of all stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Contribute as an active and innovative member of the department, as well as of the teaching and academic staff.
  • Be accessible across all age groups and phases of the school.
  • Compile case records and reports for administration purposes.
  • Drawing from practice provide research, frameworks, and skills to respond to social need through a fair, equitable and effective allocation of social resources.
  • Monitor the progress of clients by maintaining contact and follow-up.
  • Vital to this role, is to provide support and short-term counselling and therapy to our girls in an empathetic and kind manner.
  • This approach must support the ethos and philosophy of Brescia House school. This opportunity is a full-time role, 5 days a
    week, on-site.

2. Academic Learning Support– Grade 1-6

Minimum Requirements:

  • A degree in Education (B.Ed Foundation Phase or Intermediate Phase or PGCE). Applicants with a further qualification in Inclusive Education or Barriers to Learning will be preferred.
  • At least two years experience as a remedial teacher in a primary school environment.
  • Knowledge of the Response to Intervention approach and Read for Africa intervention program would be an advantage.
  • Experience in creating an Individualised Education Plan.
  • Be willing to regularly adapt independent learning programmes.
  • Be a team player and willing to contribute to a multi-disciplinary team approach.
  • Knowledge of the CAPS curriculum.
  • Commitment to the extramural programme of the school.
  • SACE registration will be preferred.
  • Police clearance certificate or proof of registration.
