1. Associate Professor: Citizenship Studies – P5

Minimum Qualification

• Doctoral degree (PhD) at NQF Level 10 in Humanities, Social Sciences, or related fields.
  (Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA.)

Specialisation Areas

Expertise in one or more of the following fields:

• Belonging and identity, statelessness, migration, refugees, global citizenship, and SDGs
• Environmental/ecological citizenship
• Digital citizenship & cyber ethics, artificial intelligence & technological citizenship
• Pan-African or indigenous citizenship models
• Social justice, human rights, diversity, and intercultural citizenship

For Academic Candidates

• Minimum 4 years’ university teaching experience.
• Successful supervision of postgraduate (Master’s and/or Doctoral) students to completion.
• Research productivity:
  • At least 6 research output units in the past 5 years OR
  • 4 research output units in the past 3 years (as per Research Output Policy, 2015).
• Evidence of community engagement, showing integration with teaching or research.
• Evidence of leadership participation in departmental, school, college, or university committees.
• Contribution to national academic bodies and learned societies.

For Applicants Other Than Academics

• Minimum 4 years’ relevant experience in a research-related field.
• Research productivity:
  • At least 4.5 research output units in the past 5 years OR
  • 2.5 units in the past 3 years.
• Demonstrated potential for community engagement in teaching, learning, or research.
• Participation in workplace committees or professional associations.

Recommendations (Advantageous)

• NRF rating.
• Experience in Open Distance e-Learning (ODeL) environments.
• Membership of a relevant professional body.
• Record of external grant/funding acquisition.
• Evidence of contribution to national or international academic communities.

Teaching Statement (max 2,000 words) — mandatory for academic positions.

• Research profile and use of technology.
• Community or stakeholder engagement in research.

Salary

• Remuneration: Commensurate with the seniority of the position (P5 level).
  (UNISA aligns salaries with internal scales for Associate Professors; typically in the range of R1,000,000 – R1,400,000 per annum cost-to-company.)
• Assumption of duty: As soon as possible after appointment.
