The University of the Free State, UFSS, is offering opportunities at the University of the Free State throughout the country as teaching assistants.

UFSS TEACHING ASSISTANT RECRUITMENT ELIGIBILITY

To apply, you need to meet the following inherent requirements:
  • be a post graduate student or in your final year of undergraduate study in 2024;
  • be enrolled as a UFS student and be able to provide proof of registration in 2024;
  • have certified tutoring, facilitating or teaching experience;
  • be proficient in English; and
  • have access to 10GB of data per month and a stable internet connection.

To apply, you need the following competencies:
  • excellent communication skills; Microsoft office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), navigating the internet; and Blackboard time management skills;
  • excellent writing skills in English;
  • ability to work independently, as well as in a team; and
  • ability to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives and abilities

Please note that foreign national students may not work more than 20 hours per week, in accordance with national labour law. The teaching assistant appointment on the Bloemfontein campus is a fixed 25-hour per week contract.

If your application is successful, you will need to work 25 hours per week (5 hours per day) for this position. You will thus have to find a balance between your studies and work duties and responsibilities as required within this position. Your duties (and therefore the work experience gained) will include:

  • Attending bi-annual training;
  • Facilitating online and face-to-face tutorials; Attending webinars;
  • Marking assessments;
  • Attending weekly meetings and reviewing module content.
