BUFFALO CITY METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY CAREER (VACANT) POSITIONS, ROLES, REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONSÂ

1. SEASONAL LIFEGUARDS X35 – BEACHES
Category: Solid Waste & Environmental Management
Period of Employment: 1 December 2025 – 31 January 2026
Reference: 167/25
Location: Municipal Beaches (City-managed areas)
Type: Fixed-term / Seasonal Contract (2 months)
REQUIREMENTS & ELIGIBILITY
Minimum Education
- Grade 10 (minimum).
Professional Certifications
- Valid Surf Proficiency Award certificate.
- Valid Retest Certificate (must still be current at the start of duty).
Experience
- At least 1 year of relevant lifesaving experience (beach, pool, or aquatic rescue).
Additional Eligibility
- Must be 16 years or older at the time of appointment.
- Physically fit and able to perform water rescues and first aid under pressure.
- Knowledge of beach safety rules, tides, rip currents, and rescue techniques.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
POSSIBLE SALARY
- Grade: TASK Grade 6A
- Rate: R 23 990.25 per month (as per municipal grading system).
- Contract period: 2 months (December 2025 – January 2026).
- No additional benefits or allowances are typically applicable to temporary seasonal staff.
