NATIONAL TREASURY DEPARTMENT OF SOUTH AFRICA CAREER (VACANT) POSITIONS, ROLES, REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

1. Deputy Director: Financial Inclusion

Requirements & Eligibility

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • Grade 12 certificate (compulsory).
  • Bachelor’s degree (NQF 7) in Finance, Banking, or Investment Management (essential).
  • Postgraduate Diploma (NQF 8) in Development Finance will be an added advantage.

Experience Requirements

  • At least 4 years relevant experience, of which 2 years must be at Assistant Director level or equivalent, preferably in a policy and research environment.
  • Proven understanding of the South African financial inclusion landscape.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial inclusion legislation, access-to-finance programmes, and policy development processes.
  • Competence in data analysis, policy formulation, and strategic decision-making.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, particularly with government, regulators, and financial service providers.

Core Competencies

  • Strategic and analytical thinking.
  • Excellent writing and policy drafting skills.
  • Advanced data interpretation and presentation skills.
  • Sound understanding of economic and financial sector reforms.
  • Proven ability to manage cross-sector collaborations and donor relations.
Possible Salary Package
  • Salary Level: 12
  • All-inclusive remuneration package: R1,059,105 – R1,247,574 per annum
    (includes basic salary, benefits, and potential performance bonus based on results and Treasury guidelines).

The exact notch will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and experience in line with National Treasury’s remuneration framework.
