The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls (The Academy) is a residential boarding school with just over 300 students enrolled in Grades 8 -12. Grade 12 students write the Independent Examination Board (IEB) National Senior Certificate (NSC) Examination.

1. Senior Educational Psychologist

Requirements & Eligibility

Minimum Academic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Educational Psychology (essential).
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Educational Psychologist (essential).
  • Up-to-date CPD portfolio (proof required).

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Educational Psychologist, preferably within a school or learning environment.
  • At least 3 years’ management or leadership experience, demonstrating the ability to lead teams and develop departmental strategies.
  • Proven experience working with vulnerable children or adolescents with trauma histories.
  • Demonstrated record of promoting holistic learner development — academic, social, and psychological.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary team collaboration and stakeholder engagement.

Key Knowledge & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of developmental psychology, trauma-informed care, and educational support models.
  • Expertise in crisis management, learner safety, and staff well-being.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, planning, and operational strategy.
  • Excellent administrative, supervisory, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in drafting policies, SOPs, and compliance documentation in line with HPCSA standards.
  • High integrity, cultural sensitivity, and alignment with OWLAG’s core values:
    Respect, Honour, Compassion, Service, Responsibility, and Accountability.
Possible Salary (Estimated Range)

The Academy does not publicly disclose remuneration details, but positions at this senior professional level in South African independent schools generally range between:

  • R720,000 – R1,050,000 per annum (Total Cost to Company)
    depending on qualifications, years of experience, and leadership responsibility.
