Every year Murray and Roberts publishes vacant position for interested & qualified South African citizens to apply for. This year is not an exception. Therefore the Jobs are listed below, together with their requirements, roles, salary and qualifications.

MURRAY AND ROBERTS CAREER (VACANT) POSITIONS, ROLES, REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS 

Applications are invited from qualified persons for the positions shown below.

1. Estimator

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:
  • ·       Read and understand tender documents, organise team meetings, compile bill of quantities and calculate costs
  • ·       Visit sites, local and abroad, on short notice to provide management with technical expertise/advice
  • ·       Work in a team for selection of equipment, establish productivities and mining methods
  • ·       Calculate project cycles and compile programmes and schedules on Excel and MS Projects
  • ·       Complete tenders on CCS
  • ·       Obtain prices from suppliers and compile a tender for a project
  • ·       Compile cash-flow forecasts
  • ·       Proactive risk identification and mitigation
  • ·       Effective self-management in alignment with M&RC’s values
Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
  • ·       Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent
  • ·       Elementary Surveying Certificate or Degree/Diploma at NQF Level 6 [Mining, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Cost Engineering, Project Management fields]
  • ·       Proficient in MS Office [MS Projects advantageous and Excel essential]
  • ·       Exposure to CCS [Construction Computer Software] (Advantageous)
  • ·       Sound financial acumen skills with ability to do complex calculations
  • ·       Analytical with attention to detail
  • ·       Sound pricing, scheduling, planning and implementation skills
  • ·       Team player skills and be willing to work in an open plan office environment
  • ·       Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:
  • ·       Minimum 3 years of experience in estimating underground mining projects which includes shaft sinking, mechanised development and toll mining projects.
  • ·       At least 3 years underground mining in a production environment, shaft sinking and mechanised development experience will be advantageous
  • ·       At least 3 years of experience planning and reading plans with knowledge of production efficiencies and labour allocations
  • ·       Experience compiling tenders using CCS advantageous

  1. A position becomes vacant at Murray and Roberts:  A position becomes available, which Murray and Roberts decides to fill either internally or externally.
  2. The position is advertised: The job is advertised on Murray and Roberts careers portal, internal notice boards. A closing date is also indicated on the advert(s).
  3. A shortlist is created: Applicants who meet the minimum requirements are shortlisted by HR and the line manager. Depending on the number of shortlisted candidates, applicants may be required to do assessments or are invited for an interview.
  4. Shortlisted applicants are invited to an interview: The line manager, team member and HR are present at the interview. Depending on the outcome of the interviews, it’s possible to select the best applicants based on their interview and CV.  If there is a “tie” between candidates, further interviews or assessments can be requested.
  5. The position is filled: The best candidate for the job is selected. We make an offer. The applicant then either accepts or declines the offer.
