We are pleased to present to you the 2022 University of Limpopo, UL Writing Competition as well as how to apply. It involves the UL competition eligibility, requirements and the prizes involved.

Cover Letter

The University of Limpopo’s Reading and Writing Centre (RWC) is currently running the 5th Annual Writing Competition for all students. If you are looking to take your writing to the next level, then enter our writing competition that provides extra impetus to refine your work.

UL WRITING COMPETITION PRIZES, REQUIREMENTS & ELIGIBILITY

Structures of written work:

  • Essays [Min of 2000 and Max of 3000 words; Ensure the use of font> Arial, font size> 12, and 1.5 line spacing; justify/align your work; Topic to be one cover page Bolded and Capitalized; all page numbers numbered excluding cover page]
  • Poems [Ensure the use of font> Arial, font size> 12, and 1.5 line spacing; justify/align your workthe poem topic should be on the bottom of the page Bold and Capitalised]
  • Short Stories [Min of 2000 and Max of 3000 wordsEnsure the use font> Arial, font size> 12, and 1.5 line spacing; justify/align your workthe topic of the short story should be on the first page Bold and Capitalized; Number all the pages excluding the cover page].
  • Short – Play (Stage Play) [Four (4) pagesEnsure the use font> Arial, font size> 12, and 1.5 line spacing; justify/align your workthe topic of the short play should be on the first page Bold and Capitalised; Number all the pages excluding the cover page]

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE UL WRITING COMPETITION

The categories should be creative writing (Essays, Poems, and Short Stories). All the submissions should be in Microsoft Word and include a Pdf version of the Turnitin report that is than 15% to be forwarded to cae.rwc@gmail.com  and cc tebogo.lekota@ul.ac.za. All subjects’ lines to appear like Writing Competition-Poem, Short Story, Essay or Short-Play (Stage Play). When you compose your email, please include your surname and initials, student number, contact details (email address, number phone, and alternative number phone), faculty, school, and department.

Application Deadline

  • The deadline of entries is on the 18 October 2022. Twenty (20) Shortlisted writers will be contacted for a face-face Workshop and Presentation, and the top two winners from each category will be rewarded.
