Among the many requirements needed for admission into the Varsity College, VC, the admission point score is the most necessary. For those of us who might be asking what an admission point score means. It is simply an accumulation of grade points needed for admission into the University. The VC APS for various courses is determined by using a constant calculation formula which will be stated in this article. 

Every year, the management of the Varsity College publishes a standard Admission Point Score for all courses which can be used as a constant in determining the selection of prospective students into undergraduate programmes. Bear in mind that the VC APS is only used as a selection criteria for undergraduate admission and not for postgraduate studies.

HOW TO CALCULATE THE VARSITY COLLEGE, VC ADMISSION POINT SCORE 

The formula used in calculating the VC admission point score is a summation of all your six (6) best high school subjects (excluding Life Orientation), the total percentage you get is your admission point. Kindly check below for an illustration and example of the APS. 

The calculation of an APS score is based on a candidates‟ achievement in six (6) recognized LGCSE subjects. A maximum of APS 26 is required for admission into the University. The requirements for admission into various faculties are stated below:

  • A NSC with Higher Certificate admission – A minimum of 30% for English is required; OR
  • A NC(V) with Higher Certificate admission – A minimum of 40% in English on either First Additional Language or Home Language level, with a minimum of 30% in Maths or Maths Literacy, a minimum of 40% in Life Orientation and a minimum of 50% in four vocational subjects; OR
  • A SC (without endorsement) or equivalent – A minimum of 5 subjects must be passed.

Additional admission requirements apply to students with a School of Tomorrow (SOT) Certificate. Contact your nearest campus for more information.

Mature Age Exemption:

  • Candidates must have attempted Matric/Grade 12, reached the age of 23 before or during the first year of registration with three years’ work experience and a proven ability relating to the proposed programme as well as adequate communicative skills; OR
  • Candidates must have reached the age of 45 before or during the first year of registration.
