Kenneth Kaunda Metropolitan University derives its name from Zambia’s first Republican president, Dr. Kennneth David Kaunda, in recognition of his commitment to improving tertiary education standards in the country. Notably, he increased the number of university graduates from only 100 at the time of independence in 1964 to thousands through the establishment of the University of Zambia in 1966. In addition, he was committed to offering free education because of his personal experience in his early childhood.
