This article contains the list of the top engineering schools in Zambia for the year 2020.

As the world is beginning to embrace technology technology for the application of science for the maximum conversion of the resources of nature to the uses of mankind, designing structures, machines, apparatus or producing methods or work utilizing them singly or together as a result of this, studying engineering has become a trend as it pushes one into the sphere of full-knowledge according to the era we are in.

Engineering as a field of study deals majorly on Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and other additional subjects such as solid and fluid mechanics, material science, thermodynamics, transfer and rare processes, and system analysis.

Being an Engineer doesn’t require you to select the problems that interest you, instead you have to solve problems as they come, ensuring the solution satisfies conflicting requirements. Engineers make use of two types of natural resources which are the material and energy. The materials are useful because of their properties — strength, lightness, ease of fabrication, ability to conduct or insulate and so on while the energy source includes fossil fuels, wind, falling water, sunlight and nuclear fission.

Engineering as a field of study is an extensive one that is sometimes disintegrated into several sub-disciplines. An Engineer will always be trained in a specific field, where he/she may acquire a variety of skills through experience.

Engineering as we know it is usually ascribed to only common engineering fields such as :

Chemical Engineering: This is the type of engineering that deals with the application of physics, biology, chemistry and principles of engineering so as to maintain chemical processes on commercial sales such as the production of special chemicals, petroleum refining, microfabrication, commodity check card, biomolecule production and fermentation.

Civil Engineering: This is a type of engineering that deals with creating, designing and construction of private and public works which include bridges, airports, roads, railways, tunnels, buildings etc. In the field of civil engineering, there are subsidiaries which include: structural engineering, survey and environmental engineering.

Computer Engineering: A branch of engineering which involves the integration of several fields of computer science and electronic engineering, software design and hardware-software integration instead of only software engineering or electronic engineering.

Electrical Engineering: Designing study and producing varieties of electrical and electronic systems is what the electrical engineering field is all about and these electrical and electronic systems include: broadcast engineering, electrical circuits, motors, generators, electronic devices, optical fibres, computer systems, instrumentation control systems, telecommunications and so on.

Another common engineering field is the Mechanical engineering field which has to do with the design and manufacture of physical or mechanical systems which include power and energy systems, aerospace/aircraft products, engines, weapon systems, kinematics, vacuum technology, vibration, turbines, audio equipments, mechatronics, power trains, compressors etc…

But on the other hand there are other forms of engineering which is advancing in our world today and are being studied in some of the best engineering schools in Zambia, they include: marine engineering, aerospace engineering, geomatic engineering, agricultural engineering, mine survey, chemical technology, environmental technology, meteorology, aviation security, air traffic management, systems engineering, quality survey, construction management and so on.

LIST OF THE TOP SCHOOLS THAT OFFERS ENGINEERING COURSES IN ZAMBIA

After various research conducted online and offline through a series of interrogation and findings, we came up with the top engineering schools in Zambia. They are :

1. Zambia Air Services Training Institute

An air service institute such as this is the only fully formed aviation training institute in the country of Zambia. Zambia Air Services training institute offer various programs in the aviation industry and related industries.

This institution is well positioned to render specialized training in engineering fields such as Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, Air Traffic Management, Aviation Security, Meteorology, Computer Systems Engineering and other related engineering programs.

2. The Copperbelt University School Of The Built Environment

This institute is one of the oldest schools. The school of built environment has developed for itself a proven track record of quality and standard teaching, and contract research on built environment issues in Zambia and the Southern African Region.

School of the built environment offers degree programs in quality survey, construction management, architecture, urban and regional planning and real estate. This school also offers a Master of science degree program in Project Management.

Furthermore, the school undertakes short course training, providing advisory, research, evaluation and facilitation services.

3. Livingstone Institute of Business and Engineering

This institute is one of the higher learning institutions in Zambia located in the southern province. The Livingstone Institute of Business and Engineering studies has been in operation for over fifty (50) years. Established in the 1950s as the Coillard institute is the Livingstone institute of business and engineering studies which as at then offered only two engineering courses in Carpentry and Bricklaying.

With technical education becoming vital factors to national development, this institution offers standard engineering programs which are highly sophisticated and diligent to practical ends.

The engineering programs of this school are designed to prepare graduates for the workplace in engineering firms and on the business side of the technical company. The engineering programs of this situation also prepares students with the chance to apply technical knowledge and skills with business purpose and insight.

4. Zambia ICT College

ZICT officially began operation in 1972 by Fwanyanga Mulikita, who is the minister of power, transport and communication. This college is operated on behalf of the government as it enjoys quality affiliations with locally and internationally recognized institutions. Also, ZICT is a home to an ICT centre of excellence in Zambia.

Zambia ICT College is a technical and business school registered under technical, educational, vocational and entrepreneurship training authority as a level one institution.

5. University of Zambia School of Engineering

This engineering school offers courses in agricultural engineering, civil and environmental engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, geomatic engineering as well as mechanical engineering.

The university of Zambia began operations with five (5) students studying engineering in the year 1966 in which after five (5) years of study they graduated and we’re awarded a Bachelor of Engineering degree.

This school deem it fit to always review its curriculum every five years and during the process of the review, the school undertakes wide-range surveys and consultations with specific stakeholders which include the industry, government, donors and other institutions of higher learning in the region.

Gaining admission into the engineering school is quite challenging as one is required to firstly complete the primary year in the school of natural sciences where one’s knowledge is built in mathematics, physics and chemistry.

Bottom Line

Being an engineer requires you gaining knowledge in science, mathematics, logic, economics, and appropriate experience or tacit knowledge to find suitable solutions to a problem. Designing an appropriate mathematical model of a problem often allows you to analyze it (sometimes definitively), and to evaluate potential solutions. Normally, a lot of reasonable solutions exist, so as an engineer you must evaluate the different design choices on their merits and choose the solution that best meets their requirements.

Being an engineer involves typically attempting to predict how well your designs will perform to specifications prior to full-scale production, using among other things: prototypes, scale models, simulations, destructive tests, nondestructive tests, and stress tests. Evaluation ensures that products will perform as expected.

Engineers take on the responsibility of producing designs that will perform as well as expected and will not bring unprogrammed harm to the public at large. They typically put a factor of safety in their designs to reduce the risk of unexpected failure.

Studying in one of the best engineering schools in Zambia gives you the opportunity to gain valuable experience, skills and competencies to thrive in your engineering career.
