KNUST Water and Environment PhD and MSc Application Form – 2022/2023

The Centre through the School of Graduate Studies, KNUST is pleased to announce that limited partial funding (Tuition and research grants) are available to pursue a 3-year full time study in the following specialisations:

  1. PhD Water Resources Management
  2. PhD Water Supply and Treatment Technologies
  3. PhD Environmental Sanitation and Waste Management

PhD students are required to apply into one of the underlisted research themes, research packages and/or topic. The research theme and work package into which you are applying should be clearly stated on your research proposal;

Research ThemesFemale candidates are encouraged to apply to take advantage of the funding opportunities available.

RWESCK Graduate Programme is pleased to announce that limited partially-funded (partial tuition and research grants) scholarships are also available for applicants from Ghana and West African Countries to pursue 18 months full-time MSc programme in the following specialisations:

  1. MSc Water Resources Engineering and Management
  2. MSc Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation

KNUST WATER AND ENVIRONMENT POSTGRADUATE APPLICATION PROCEDURE & ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS 

Entry Requirements: 

PhD Entry Requirements

In conformity with the entry requirement of the School of Graduate Studies, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the successful candidate will have a minimum of:

  • First or Second Class (Upper Division) in first degree
  • Good Master’s degree in Water and Sanitation, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural Engineering (Soil and Water Engineering option), Civil Engineering (Water Resources/Hydrology option), Geomatic Engineering, Natural Resources, Mathematics, Geography, Chemical Engineering and other relevant disciplines, with an average of at least 60%.
  • Candidates from non-Anglophone countries must have an internationally recognised Certificate of Proficiency in the English Language (TOEFL or British Council, IELTS) with above average score
  • Candidates with one publication in a journal as first author have an advantage.
  • Evidence of current and previous employments.

M.Sc Entry Requirements

In conformity with the entry requirement of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the successful candidate will have a minimum of:

  • First or Second Class (Upper Division) in first degree in fields such as Water and Sanitation, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural Engineering (Soil and Water Engineering option), Civil Engineering (Water Resources/Hydrology option), Geomatic Engineering, Natural Resources, Mathematics, Geology, Chemical Engineering and other relevant disciplines,
  • Candidates from non-Anglophone countries must have an internationally recognised Certificate of Proficiency in the English Language (TOEFL or British Council, IELTS) with above average score.

Application Procedure

  1. Ghanaian Students: Purchase the e-voucher and access the KNUST application form via (Here!), Hard copies of application form should be submitted to the School of Graduate Studies, KNUST by 30th May 2020.
  2. International students: Access the KNUST application form via (Here!), Soft copies of the signed application form and other relevant documents should be sent by email to rwesckproject@gmail.com by Monday, 30th March 2020

KNUST will shortlist candidates for a selection interview in Kumasi OR via telephone/Skype. The date of the interview will be communicated after short listing. 

Application supporting documents
  • Detailed CV and two letters of reference (one from your supervisor at the Master’s level)
  • Official transcripts and certificates for BSc and MSc degrees
  • Proof of ability to communicate in English for Candidates from non-Anglophone countries
  • PhD candidates are to submit soft and hard copies of a letter of motivation (max. two pages) with the heading outlining why you want to study, what makes you well-suited to study in your chosen specialisation, current occupation, how the programme will fit into your professional vision, how your home country stands to benefit after your training.
  • PhD candidates are to submit both soft and hard copies of a short concept note (Max. 3 pages) outlining the justification, objectives, methodology and expected outcomes of a research idea.
