How To Fit Into School Routine After A Long Break

So, you are thinking about going back to school after a long break from school due to the global pandemic. Well, the thought  may seem a little bit scary and disturbing but not to worry, this article has got you covered. It will be pointing out the easiest way of settling in to school once again. The following are a few tips to try as you start school again.

STEPS ON HOW TO FIT INTO SCHOOL ROUTINE AFTER A LONG BREAK

1. GET YOUR SCHOOL BELONGINGS READY

This is different for students at different academic levels. For those in Secondary/high schools, it is possible your uniforms, footwears and books are not in good condition. Wash, iron and ensure they are in good conditions. For those in Universities and colleges, arrange your personal belongings and make sure they are in perfect conditions. This is the first step to preparing your mind for the journey back to school.

2. COMPLETE ALL ASSIGNMENTS AND PROJECTS

If you’ve been given any homework/assignments before the break make sure that they’re all completed. You have enough time to work on your assignments/projects and there is no excuse for handing in a tacky and unfinished work. If possible, do the work early enough, don’t leave it for the last minute to avoid rushing to finish up.

There is always a build up of tension  when school resumption is a day away with undone assignments scattered all over the place.

3. REVISE PREVIOUS WORKS

Working on assignments helps you to get in tune with school work  but in a case where no assignment was given, revise previous schools works. This helps in preparing your mind for school and school activities beforehand.

4. BUY YOUR SCHOOL SUPPLIES/BOOKS EARLY

The easiest way for me back to prepare my mind for school after a long break was getting my school supplies. The sight of a new school bag and stationeries automatically reminds me that playtime is over.

If you purchase your books, pens from other school essentials early rather than later,  you’ll save yourself the stress of being in a haste to get one.

5. PRINT OUT YOUR CLASS SCHEDULE

Being organized is a major step to getting back on track. By printing out your new class schedule and putting it somewhere you can see it, you’ll be able to constantly know where and when your class is. If possible, be sure to also have your schedule stored on your mobile phone. Start to look over your syllabus before classes start

Reading your syllabus for each class is really important before starting. This will help you be aware of what’s going without being lost when you get to class.

6. SET GOALS FOR YOURSELF

A few days before you go back to school, write a list of personal goals you would love to achieve during the semester. Having something to work toward has the tendency of relieving anxiety about starting up again. These goals can be physical or social.

Some of the goals might be making new friends; joining a club, getting better grades or avoiding going late to school.

7. READJUST YOUR SLEEP SCHEDULE

The aspect of sleep  is the area that most student have problems when going back to school after a long time. While on break, you may have enjoyed sleeping late and waking up late. This will not always be the case after resumption. In order to adjust easily, few days to resumption and upon resumption, readjust your sleep schedule and pattern. Go to bed early and wake up early, skip late night meals.

Going to bed early helps you to get a full night’s rest the night before school resumes. Sleep deprivation is terrible for your body, and can result in weight gain, difficulty concentrating, and irritability. Protect your health and make the first day back to school after break easier on yourself by getting the sleep you need.

If you’re finding it difficult to wake up early after being at home for so long, set an alarm.. Setting your alarm will help you wake up for those early morning classes and also get you back to waking up early again.

8. GET OTHERS INVOLVED TO ASSIST

Sometimes, you might not be able to do this on your own. In my student days, this helped me a lot.  I usually find it difficult adjusting back to school routine after a long break. Back then, I usually ask my mum to wake me up an hour before normal wake up time. Sometimes an alarm might not be enough to get you up early. Having someone wake you up is the best option.

As an undergraduate, I got my friends involved. Because I wasn’t staying in campus, they would always buzz me up to get set for early morning lectures. After sometime, you will automatically adjust to the normal routine of waking up early.

9. GO BACK TO PROPER TIME MANAGEMENT

A major struggle for many students is proper time management. While on break, it is possible you did things without being time conscious. You probably went to bed at any time you deemed fit, you spent all seeing a movie and browsing on the internet. You also visited friends at ease. After all, school isn’t in session. There is no need to worry about time. That’s cool.

Go through your daily routine and readjust your activities. This will be helpful in identifying how much time is actually spent engaging in productive activities or  idle events.

Now the break is over. It is for proper time management . Hence, there should be time for everything. Less time for fun and more time for  school activities. This will certainly help you in getting back on track.

10. START YOUR DAY EARLIER THAN NORMAL

Your first day back to school after break, you’ll be out of practice doing your normal routine, which will likely add more time than you expect. Try to wake up a little earlier than normal so that you have extra time to make sure you have everything you need to succeed. With this, you will have enough time to get your breakfast ready as well.

11. TAKE YOUR TIME GETTING BACK INTO THE RHYTHM OF THINGS.

There are no two ways about this, adjusting to a normal school routine after a long break may take a longer time for some students. You’ll need some time before it feels normal going to school again. When this is your case, don’t be too hard on yourself. Before you know it, you’re fully adjusted for school again.

Getting back to school after a long break from school can be very difficult for many students but with proper planning, it can be very easy to get back to the normal school routine.

After months of staying away from school due to the global pandemic, getting back to school will not be very difficult if as a student you get into the normal school routine before school fully resumes. It is very possible to  go ahead and start getting yourself back into a school routine even before you start school by going to bed early and rising early, going through your school works regularly, etc.
