This article contains information on how to gain access to the Kenya National Examinations Council(KNEC) KCPE & KCSE registration Portal (https://www.knec-portal.ac.ke/) also known as the examination registration portal.

KNEC KCPE & KCSE Registration Portal

The KNEC KCPE & KCSE Registration Portal is mostly for exam registration purposes.All examination centres are expected to log onto the platform for the specific examination and enter the candidates’ details using the school/centre registration password

Kenya Certificate for Primary Education (KCPE) Exams are usually conducted in the month of November, and results are available before the 24th of December. Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education (KCSE) Exams are usually conducted from the month of October with projects, practicals and theory papers to officially end in the month of November.

Registration takes place based on the School Calendar and guidance from the Council from time to time. Check the KNEC website or contact the headteacher of a school or the Sub County Director of Education for more information

STEPS ON HOW TO ACCESS AND REGISTER ON THE KNEC KCPE & KCSE REGISTRATION PORTAL

The following is a guide on how to enrol in the KNEC KCPE & KCSE Registration Portal.

  1. Open your internet browser e.g. Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, etc.
  2. Go to KCPE & KCSE Registration Portal
  3. Kindly log in with your candidates’ details using the school/centre registration password.

During registration period, private candidates are expected to report to the Subcounty Director of Education to register for KCPE and KCSE examinations after paying the requisite fees.

For Foreign Examinations, they are expected to report to KNEC premises in South C Foreign Examinations section for registration

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The mandate of KNEC is outlined in Section 10 of KNEC Act No. 29 of 2012 as to:
  • Set and maintain examinations standards
  • Conduct public academic, technical and other national examinations within Kenya at basic and tertiary levels
  • Award certificates or diplomas to candidates in such examinations. (Such certificates or diplomas, shall not be withheld from the candidate by any person or institution)
  • Confirm authenticity of certificates or diplomas issued by the Council upon request by the government, public institutions, learning institutions, employers and other interested parties
  • Undertake research on educational assessment.

  • Advice any public institution on the development and use of any system or assessment when requested to do so, and in accordance with such terms and conditions as shall be mutually agreed between the Council and the public institutions
  • Promote the international recognition of qualifications conferred by the Council
  • Advice the Government on any policy decision that is relevant to, or has implications on the functions of the Council or the administration of examinations in Kenya
  • Do anything incidental or conducive to the performance of the preceding functions
