Mbarara University of Science and Technology, MUST Postgraduate 2024/2025 Admission requirement for all the courses at the Postgraduate level is updated every year. Therefore, this article contains the full list of all the Postgraduate courses coupled with their general requirements.

Mbarara University, MUST Postgraduate Admissions Requirement For All Courses

For admission into programs of study at the Mbarara University, MUST  for any second degree, an applicant must have the following requirements for successful admission.

MBARARA UNIVERSITY, MUST POSTGRADUATE ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The minimum requirements for admission to any Postgraduate degree are:

  • Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or it’s equivalent with at least 5 passes
  • Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or it’s equivalent with at least 2 principal passes.
  • An Honors degree from an accredited degree-awarding institution
  • Candidates who have a Pass degree should have at least a Postgraduate Diploma with at least a credit from an accredited degree-awarding institution.

Additionally, for international applicants:

  • Applicants whose first language or medium of instruction is not English must provide evidence from a recognized English language training institution that they have sufficient command of the English language.
  • Have a documentary evidence of Internship Training indicating disciplines and dates.
  • International applicants should have their documents verified by NCHE.
  • International applicants should have their degree certificate and transcript translated and converted into an equivalent of Ugandan Universities’ CGPA
  • Be registered or eligible for registration with Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council.
  • A current certificate of good standing with the Medical Practitioners’ Council of the country of origin.

Below are the list of courses and their requirement under various Faculties.

Institute of Interdisciplinary Training and Research

  1. Postgraduate Diploma in Development Studies
  2. Postgraduate Diploma in Criminology
  • Should at least be a holder of a good first degree from a recognized University.
  1. M.A in Development Studies
  • A candidate must hold a good Bachelors’ degree in any development-related discipline. A postgraduate Diploma in Development Studies from Mbarara University of Science and Technology will be an added advantage.
  1. M.A in Local Governance and Planning
  • A candidate must hold a good Bachelors’ degree in any development-related discipline. A postgraduate Diploma in Development Studies from Mbarara University of Science and Technology will be an added advantage.
  1. Master of Business Administration (MBA)
  • A candidate must hold a good Bachelors’ degree.
  • Have 2 years of postgraduate work experience.
  • Passing the Graduate Admissions Test (GAT) of Mbarara University of Science and Technology.

Faculty of Science

  1. Master of Science in Biology
  • A candidate must have an Honours degree of at least Second Class Lower Division from a recognized University in Botany/ Zoology/ Ethnobotany/ Forestry/ Agriculture/Veterinary Medicine.
  • Have an undergraduate dissertation in areas especially related to Biology for the non Botany/Ethnobotany applicants.
    Applicants of Zoology/Botany who offered 3:2:2 will have an added advantage.
  1. Master of Science in Mathematics
  • A candidate must have an Honours degree of at least Second Class-Lower Division from a recognized University majoring in Mathematics.
  1. Master of Science in Physics
  • A candidate must have an Honours degree of at least Second Class-Lower Division from a recognized University majoring in Physics.
  1. Master of Science in Chemistry
  • A candidate must have an Honours degree of at least Second Class-Lower Division from a recognized University majoring in Chemistry.
  1. Master of Education (Educational Administration and Planning)
  2. Master of Education (Educational Psychology)
  3. Master of Education (Curriculum and Instruction)
  • A candidate must have an Honours degree of at least Second Class Lower Division from a recognized University in BA/Ed or BSc/Ed.
    A candidate must have a BA or BSc (2.2) and Postgraduate Diploma in Education.

Faculty of Medicine

  1. Master of Science in Anatomy
  2. Master of Science in Physiology
  3. Master of Science in Pharmacology
  4. Masters of Public Health (MPH)
  5. Master of Science in Microbiology
  6. Master of Medical Laboratory Science
  • A good Bachelors’ degree in Medicine and Surgery or its equivalent from a recognized University.
  • A Bachelor’s in Health Sciences i.e. Human Medicine, Veterinary, Dentistry or Nursing and at least 2 years of relevant field experience.
  • In addition, for MPH only, a degree in Social Sciences e.g Social work, Sociology, Economics, Demography with at least two years of relevant field experience, a degree in the Biological Sciences such as Statistics, Environmental Sciences, Biology, Laboratory Sciences and at least two years of relevant field experience are eligible to apply for MPH.
  • For MPH, A good Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or its equivalent from a recognized University.

Course duration for the courses below is 3 years

  1. Master of Medicine in General Surgery
  2. Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine
  3. Master of Medicine in Paediatrics & Child Health
  4. Master of Medicine in Dermatology
  5. Master of Medicine in Anaesthesia
  6. Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology
  7. Master of Medicine in Obstetrics/Gynaecology
  8. Master of Medicine in Community Practice/Family Medicine

Requirements for the courses above are as follows

  • Be a holder of MBChB or its equivalent and should be registered with Uganda Medical & Dental Practitioners Council.
  • Have a recent certificate of good standing issued to the candidate by the registering authority.
  • Documentary evidence of Internship training indicating the disciplines and dates.
  • Evidence of professional experience in a recognized institution for at least 2 years since full registration.

Faculty of Business and Management Sciences

  1. Master of Business Administration
  • An honors degree
  • Sit and Pass the Graduate Admissions Test (GAT) of Mbarara University of Science and Technology

Faculty of Computing and Informatics

1. Postgraduate Diploma in Business Informatics

  • A degree in Computing, Information Technology, Information Systems, Informatics, Business Studies or a degree in other STEM-related fields from a recognized institution

2. Postgraduate Diploma in Health Information Technology

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Technology/Information Systems/Computer Engineering/Software Engineering or any other computing-related field or other STEM-related degree from a recognized higher institution of learning

OR

  • A bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Phar-macy and any other healthcare-related degree from a recognized higher institution of learning

3. Postgraduate Diploma in Information Systems

  • A degree in Information Systems or Computer Science or Software Engineering or Information Technology or Computer Engineering from a recognized institution

OR

  • A degree in any other STEM-related field with evidence of having taken acceptable courses in information systems

4. Masters in Business Informatics

  • An honors degree in Computing, Information Technology, Information Systems, Informatics, Business Studies or a degree in other STEM-related fields from a recognized institution

OR

  • A good postgraduate diploma in Computing, Information Technology, Information Systems, Informatics, Business Studies or a degree in other STEM-related fields from a recognized institution

5. Master of Science in Health Information Technology

  • An honors degree in health care related field (e.g Medicine, Nursing, Phar-macy, Dentistry) or Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Technology from a recognized institution

6. Master of Science in Information Systems

  • An honors degree in Information Systems or Computer Science or Software Engineering or Information Technology or Computer Engineering or equivalent

Doctor of Philosophy in relevant field

  • Requirements:
    A good Master degree from a recognized University.
    Fees the same as for Masters.
