South Africa’s Department of Sport, Arts & Culture, in partnership with the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), presents an exceptional opportunity for young individuals passionate about the creative and cultural sector. The Young Creatives Programme, a one-year National Youth Service Programme, provides a platform to engage youth in arts and culture, while promoting community mobilisation​​. This initiative is specifically tailored for South Africans between the ages of 18 and 35, who are eager to leave their mark in the creative and cultural industries.

NYDA Young Creatives Programme Benefits

As part of The Young Creatives Programme, successful applicants will have the opportunity to implement arts and cultural activities both in Community Arts Centres and schools, thus contributing to the vibrant tapestry of South African culture. Participants will also mobilise schools and youth formations to be part of the programme and the activities at the Community Arts Centres, further fostering cultural engagement within their communities.

Moreover, participants will be tasked with implementing, coordinating, and supporting The Young Creatives Programme events in the community, which serves as an excellent platform for gaining hands-on experience in event management within the cultural sector. The programme also offers the chance to administer the monitoring of The Young Creatives Programme implementation in schools and at the Community Arts Centres, thereby honing their administrative and leadership skills. Participants will receive a monthly stipend of R4,000, providing financial support as they gain valuable experience in the creative and cultural sector​.

NYDA Young Creatives Programme Eligibility

To be considered for The Young Creatives Programme, candidates must fulfil the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Possess a Grade 12 Certificate. A tertiary qualification will be considered an added advantage.
  2. Be between the ages of 18 and 35 years.
  3. Be from the creative and cultural sector.
  4. Demonstrate facilitation and presentation skills.
  5. Have proficiency in English and a local language.
  6. Display a strong background in communication and youth development.
  7. Be a self-initiator, proactive, with attention to detail.
  8. Display the ability to role model​.
