IMPALA PLATINUM CAREER (VACANT) POSITIONS, ROLES, REQUIREMENTS, AND QUALIFICATIONS  

Applications are invited from qualified individuals for the positions shown below.

1. Head of Safety, Rustenburg Operations

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • A mine manager’s certificate or Engineering Government Certificate of Competence (GCC) is essential.
  • A BTECH in Health and Safety, a BSC Mining degree, and a National Diploma in Safety Management are desirable.
  • Must have a valid medical certificate or be medically fit in order to obtain such a certificate.
  • A minimum of 5 years of senior management experience in mining, engineering, and processing is essential.
  • Pre-experience in safety management (underground mining) is desirable.
  • Knowledge of MHSA is essential.
  • Knowledge of COIDA (the Compensation of Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act) is essential.
  • Experience in underground hard rock mining and processing is essential.
  • Fatal risk control protocols are essential.
  • Critical Control Management’s MUE is essential.

COMPETENCIES:
  • Must have good communication (senior level) and report-writing skills.
  • Must have presentation and analytical skills.
  • Must have auditing skills.
  • Must have managerial and motivational skills.
Key Performance Areas:
  • Developing an annual safety business plan with associated objectives for Rustenburg

that supports the Implats Business Plan.

  • Developing leading and lagging indicators to measure performance against the safety business plan and establishing monthly and quarterly reports of these indicators
  • Developing any mandatory code of practise applicable to safety
  • Establishing the necessary legal safety structures for the Rustenburg Operation
  • Developing managerial electronic systems for managing risk, safety statistics, Rand Mutual claims, audits, and inspections
  • Updating the operation on national safety issues through various sources, e.g., the Minerals Council
  • Providing and establishing formal consultation processes with the health and safety representative structures and office bearers
  • Continuously seeking new initiatives to improve the safety culture.
  • Establishing an Organisational Risk Assessment (ORA) for safety and managing those risks
